Mayor Mathews presiding, City attorney G. A. Spen- cer and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. Councilmen Richolson and Peters absent. The minutes of the Regular Semi -Monthly pvileeting of December 16th, 1918, were read and approved as read. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Richolson and Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2232. Councilman Brown of the Street and Alley Committee asked for further time to report on the matter of paving Third Street from Ash Street to Elm Street. On motion further time was granted. Councilman Waite moved that the City purchase three more snow plows. The matter was referred to the Mayor and The Street and Alley Committee. Street Commissioner, Ed Buchanan made requisition for two more carts to be used in the street sweeping department. Councilman Smith moved that the matter be referred to the Mayor and the Street and Alley Committee with power to act. Councilman Smith moved that the Mayor and City Clerk draft a resolution asking the State Legislature to enact a law whereby the City can remove snow from sidewalks and tax the same up to the abutting property, and to forward a copy of said resolution to Senator Aug. V,. Andersen , and Representative Cyrus E. White. Councilman Brown moved that the Building Committee be auth- orized to have a wall constructed at the rear of the City lot on South Fifth Street, occupied by the Street Commissioner's yard. Councilman Underwood called the attention of the Council to the condition of the oaid Fire Station. On motion, the matter was referred to the Building Committee to bring in a report and estimate of cost on having the same re- paired. The second story to be used as the Fire Chief's residence and to see if the first story could not be rented to some desir- able tenant. A proposition was received from The American La France Fire Engine Company for the installation of a new fire apparatus. Councilman Brown moved that the City Clerk ask the Company to send a representative here to confer with the Council. Counciiman Spaeth moved that the City Clerk be authorized to advance money for the payment of one car of sewer pipe, thereby saving the 5% discount. Motion adopted. City Engineer, P. G. Wakenhut, was instructed to have the drainage sewer on State Street between the Missouri Pacific Railway and Dry Creek dug up and lowered. The ladies in the North Precinct of the Second Ward asked for the use of the voting building, in which to hold their rummage sale. on motion permission was granted. Applications for Pool Hall licenses were received as follows: Chas. Benjamin, Niles & Moser Cigar Company, Maxwell & DeLaney, Geo. P. Seavey, beagle & Shaw, H. W. Burris, W. E. Gordon, _ Lamer Pool Hall, Union Station Pool Hall. Councilman Brown moved that license be granted, and on roll call the motion was adopted by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Spaeth, Reed, Brown. (5) Nays: Smith, Waite and Todd. (3) Councilmen Richolson and Peters absent. Councilman Brown moved that as soon as the required num- ber of property owners asking for the extension of the incan- descent light service .in the southwest part of the City, would wire their houses,the City would order the Salina Light, Power & Gas Company to extend the electric line to accomodate said pro- perty owners. On roll call the motion was adopted by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Richolson and Peters absent. On motion of CounciliTan Brown, Council adjourned. City Clerk.
