12-02-1918 MinutesCOUiXIL PROCEELINGS, REGUAAR MEETING. I, COUNCIL, CHAMBER SALIPiA, KANSAS. DECEMBER 2nd, 1918. Regular semi-monthly meeting of the City Council, December 2nd, 1918. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Brown, Waite and Todd. Councilmen Underwood, Reed, Richolson and Peters absent. The minutes of the Regular semi-monthly meeting of November -_- 18th, 1918, were read and approved as read. Councilman Todd of the Ways and Means Committee reported that the Committee to whom was referred the matter of community singing entertainments had guaranteed the hall rent for the first enter- tainment, and as to the balance of the entertainments the committee had no recommendations. Claims and Expenditure Committee reported by Ordinance entit- led, "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of cer- tain claims." on motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Grimes, Smith, Spaeth, Brown, Waite and Todd. (6) Nays: (0) Councilmen Underwood, Reed, Richolson and Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2225 Councilman Waite of the Sidewalk Committee reported favorably on the petition asking for the construction of a sidewalk on the out- er edge of the parking on the west side of Eighth Street south of Li nc oln Avenue . On motion the report of the committee was adopted. Councilman Brown moved that the Mayor be authorized to in- struct and warn the people the necessity of having cards placed on houses where cases of influenza is in said house. Mrs. M. B. Curtis filed an additional petition containing three names asking for incandescent light service in the southwest part of the City. City Engineer, P. G. Wakenhut, submitted his diagram showing measurement for different incandescent line service in the south- west part of the City, as was ordered by the Council at the last Regular Meeting of November 18th, 1918. On motion the report was received and ordered filed. The matter was further discussed by the members of the Coun- cil and same was finally referred to the City Attorney for investi- gation. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance provid- ing for the construction of certain sewers in the City of Salina, Kansas, letting the contract therefor and providing for the payment of the cost thereof." There not being enough members present for the suspension _ of the rules the ordinance was deferred until the next Regular Meeting. 1 a On motion of Councilman Brown Council adjourned. City Clerk.
