Mayor i:athews presiding, City 1;ttorney C. ii.. Spencer and the following named councilmen answered to roll call;,Underwood, Grimes, Reed, Richolson, Brolin, ',aite, Todd and Peters. Council- men Smith and Spaeth absent. Councilman Brown submitted the rules of order governing the Council, that had bee:, adopted and approved by the forner Council and moved that the same be adopted; and on roll call the motion was unanimously adopted. Franl_ Barbee appeared before the Council and asked permission of the Council to conduct a base ball game on Sunday afternoon, May 26th2 1918, same to be for the benefit of the hone Guards and Red Cross. On roll call permission was granted. Councilman Brown moved that the I,'Iayor be authorized to appoint Ed Buchanan, Special Police, in connection as Street Commissioner. xn ordinance was introduced entitled: "hn ordinance granting the Union Pacific Railroad Company the right of rFay to build cer- tain Railroad tracks upon, along and across certain streets and al- leys in the city of Salina, Kansas. On motion of Councilman Todd the rules of order were suspend- ed for its consideration by the following vote; Ares: Underwood, Grimes, Reed, Richolson, Brown, vJaite, Todd and Peters. Claims and Expenditure Committee reported by ordinance entitled: ,,n ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims. ;aid cor:mittee submitted the claim of The Salina Plumbing Com )any in the amount of X800.00 for part payment for plLimbing at new Fire Station; also claim from d. n. Ferm in the amount of X3,000 for part payment f'or constructing Fire Station. On motion, the above claims ;sere included in the anropriation ordinance and the I ayor and Clerk were instructed not to sign said checks until same had been approved by the Building Committee. n claim from I. U. henry in the amount of ~',103.50 for services as Sidewalk Inspector were presented, and on motion same all -owed, and services of Sidewalk Inspector dispensed with. Jakenhut, submitted plans and specifica- tions for the race trach_ in I envrood -1ark, and on riotion of Coun- cilman Reed:,: same were adopted and approved by the Council, and the City Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for the construc- tion of the same, to be received at the next Regular I.Teeting. t.Tot ion adopted. ;,street Commissioner, Ed. Buchanan, appeared before the Coun- cil and stated that the City was ii': need of a new road grader. On motion the matter was referred to the Street and alley committee with pohrer to act. !,'ire Chief, Ben Tolbert, appeared -,)efore the Council and stated thatthe pulmotor in charge of the r'ire Department was in need of repairs. On motion, the r-.at',er of having the same re_�aired, was re- ferred to the Fire uepartrient Committee with pourer to act. Councilman 'eters suggested that the City Clerk be author- ized to publish his annual report. On motion of Cou_zcilman Brown, the City Clerk was instructed to have the same published. Councilman Todd moved that the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the printing of ordinances and legal notices for the ensuing ;rear. A petition was received asking for the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of ilsh Street from tl_e Piissouri Pacific Railroad ':rest to Chicago Street. Sarre was referred to the Sidewalk Cor_�.mittee . The monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer, i'o- lice Judge and Fire chief were received and ordered filed.
