04-05-1918 MinutesY- }w. 1. �� COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS, ADJOURNED MEETI14G. COUNCIL CHAlvIBER SALINA, KANSAS. APRIL 5th, 1918. Adjourned meeting of the City Council, April 5th, 1918. Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the fol- lowing named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. Councilmen Mishler and Peters absent. Mr. Davis of The National Bonding and Surety Company appear- ed before the Council and sul-mitted a proposition for the V1165,000 issue of Sewer Bonds. The matter was referred to the Mayor to have the parties submit a written proposition at the next meeting -of the Council. Mayor Mathews appointed the following persons as directors for The Salina Public Library: 1 year-- Mrs. Alic© G. Bond, Mrs. May B. Brown, 2 year-- Mrs. Etta Crawford, W. S. Heusner, 3 year-- Chas. F. McAdams, . D. Fitzpatrick, 4 year-- Raymond Geis, Frank Hageman. on motion of Councilrian Brown the appointments were confirmed. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Mishler and Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2168. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance requir- ing the payment of certain sums into the City Treasury and provid- ing for the certification to the County Clerk of Saline County, Kansas of certain sums not paid in and to be assessed as taxes against certain land." On motion of Councilman Reed the rules of order were sus- pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Under- wood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Reed, Brown, 7,7aite and Todd. (81ays : (0) Councilmen i,,Iishler and Peters absent. On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry,, Smith, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) Nays: (0) Councilmen Mishler and Peters absent. The ,"ayor approved the same and is numbered 2169. The following resolution was introduced: WHEREAS, it has been shown that there are nine per- sons on Olive Street south of Ash Street in the City of Salina, Kansas, who desire to become tenants of The Salina Water Works Company for domestic purposes only and that in order to permit such persons to become such tenants it will be necessary for said company to lay not to exceed 540 feet of pipe; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, By the !� ayor and Councilmen of the City of Salina, Kansas, that The Salina Water Works Com)a.ny be, and it is hereby directed to lay and install a two-inch water pipe for domestic purposes only on Olive Street south of and connected with its present main on Ash Street, to permit such persons to become tenants of such Company for domestic purposes only. Edd Mathews, Mayor. �b (1G 1 1 1 1 On motion of Councioman Henry the rules of order were suspended for its consideration and the resolution adopted as read by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) rays: (0) Council- men Mishler and Peters absent. Councilman Underwood called the attention of the Council to the unsanitary condition of the dump near Hanly's Mattress Factory, also the Ferlen dump. Councilman Smith moved that the Sanitary Officer be instruct- ed to notify the above parties to have same discontinued at once. Councilman Brown of the Special Committee, to whom was re- ferred the matter of incorporating Highland Court Addition to the City of Salina, asked for further time. On motion, further time was granted. On motion of Councilman Smith, Council adjourned. � y City Clerk.
