COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS, ADJOURNED METING.
On motion of Councilman Mishler the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Under-
wood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, l.iishler, Reed, Brown. Waite, Todd and
Peters. (10) Nays: (0)
On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith,
Iviishler, Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (10) Plays: (0)
The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2150.
A petition was received from the residents along Washington
Avenue, asking that the paving on Washington Avenue be not construct-
ed at the present time. On motion the matter was referred to the
Ways and IYZeans Committee.
L. C. Housel and H. J. Ruhling appeared before the Council in
reference to more efficient fire apparatus for the City.
Councilman Underwood of the Building Committee reported that
the Building Committee and Public Health Cor_mittee had authorized the
construction of a pest house on the City dump ground, west of the
city limits, also reported that the committee had investigated the
building used by the Park Commissioner in Oakdale Park, and recom-
mended that in their opinion, it would not be advisable to try to
re -construct said building. On motion, the report of the committee
was adopted by the Council.
Councilman Brown moved that the City Clerk and City Treasurer
be authorized to appropriate the sum of ;1,000.07 out of the Park
Fund and transfer the same to the General Find . The above amount hav-
ing been charged to the General Fund for the construction of retain-
ing walls at the Kenwood Bridge.

Adjourned meeting of the City Council, February llth, 1918.
Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the follow-
ing named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood, Grimes, Hen-
ry, Smith, Mishler, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. Councilman Reed
absent.
The report of the appraisers for the opening; of Putnam Avenue
from South Street to I,Iorrison Avenue between Ninth Street and Tenth
Street was taken up, and Councilman Brown of the Street and Alley
Committee moved ti_at the report be accepted and confirmed. Motion
adopted.
The matter of Junk Dealers license for H. Felman was presented,
and on motion of Councilman Brown the license was not granted and
deposit refunded.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance relating
to salaries of certain officials and employees of the City of Salina."
On motion of Councilman Todd the rules of order were suspended
for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood,
Grimes, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (9)
Plays: (0) Councilman Henry not voting.
On motion of Councilman Smith the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections on its final adoption the roll was called and the
following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Smith, Mishler,
Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman
Henry not voting. The iE,ayor approved the same and is numbered 2149.
Councilman Mishler moved that the City Attorne prepare an
ordinance increasing the Police Judge's salary from 800 to X900
per year. Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance providing
for the issuance of Improvement Bonds of the city of Salina, Kansas,
in the sum of X118,808.86, to pay the costs of,improving certain
streets in said City."

Three propositions were received from tY_e Overland -Salina
Company for the repairing of the old automobile formerly used by
the cheif of the Fire Department.
Councilman Brown moved that the proposition for the repair-
ing of the same for the sum of X125.00 be accepted.
Councilman Henry moved that the iviayor and Fire Department
Committee be authorized to go to Kansas to investigate different
fire equipment.
Councilman Peters of the Sewer and Drainage Committee report-
ed on the petition asking for t:e construction of a sewer in the
alley between Minneapolis and Beloit Avenues, from Santa Fe Avenue
east to the railroad, and recommended that the same be constructed
at once.
City Engineer, P. G. Nakenhut, having prepared plans and
specifications and estimate of cost for the same, Councilman Brown
moved that they be adopted and approved by the Council., and the
Sewer Committee was authorized to receive bids and let a contract
for the construction of the above named sewers.
Mayor Mathews informed the Council that several parties desire
to lease certain portions of Kenwood Park for gardening; purposes.
On motion the matter was referred to the Mayor and the Park Depart-
ment

ment Committee for investigation and power to act.
A communication was received from the itilitary Band of Camp
Funston, in reference to giving a concert in the City of Salina.
The matter was referred to the Mays and P,Ieans Committee.
The Berg Undertaking Company submitted a bill. for funeral ex-
penses for the late Chas. Lyberger. On motion the matter was
referred to the Claims and :expenditure Committee.
on motion, the City Clerk was instructed to notify The Salina,
Light, Power L, Gas Company to lay conduits for the installing of
intersection posts at the corner of Fifth and Ash Streets; also
Elm Street and Santa Fe Avenue.
On motion of Councilman Henry, Council. adjourned.
