A representative from The Caroline Development Company appear-
ed before the Council and asked that the City incorporate the new
addition recently purchased by their company, lying west of Ninth
Street and south of Republic Avenue.
Councilman Peters moved that the matter be referred to the
Street and Alley Committee, and the Parks and Parking Committee.
Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
anappropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Councilman Reed the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith,
Mishler, Reed, Brown, 'daite, Todd and Peters. (10) Nays: (0) 2144
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance specify-
ing and selecting the having material to be used and letting the
contract for the paving and excavating of certain streets in the
City of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman Reed the rules of order were suspend-
ed for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood,
Grimes, Henry, Smith, I,,,Zishler, Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters.

On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry,
Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (10) Nays:
(0) The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2145.
City Engineer P. G. Wakenhut, submitted plans and specifica-
tions and estimate of cost for the excavating and paving of Ash
Street from the west line of Third Street to the west line of Front
Street.
On motion of Councilman Mishler, same were ado )ted and approved
by the Council.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance providing
for the paving, excav�t ing, and grading of Ash Street in the city
of Salina, Kansas, from the east line of Third Street to the west
line of Front Street, providing for the manner of construction, pro-
viding for the cost thereofo and the manner of payment."

The following resolution was introduced:
BE IT RESOLVED, By the mayor and councilmen of the
city of Salina, Kansas, that it is the sense of this body that no
paving, curbing, or guttering be built or constructed within the
city of Salina, Kansas, during the year 1918, e:kept such as may
have been already contracted for or petitions filed or resolutions
adopted requesting or oddering such paving, curbing or guttering to
be built and constructed.

On motion of Councilman Brown the resolution was adopted by

Councilman Henry moved that the contract for cement walks be
awarded to D. G. Stack for ten cents (10¢) cash and eleven cents
(11;6) scrip; and that the contract for re-laying brick sidewalks
be awarded to C. T. Snyder for three and one-half cents (3F¢) cash
and four cents (4�) scrip. Motion adopted.
Councilman Peters moved that the Fire Department Committee in-
vestigate and see what the fueling is of the business men in reference
to additional fire apparatus, and report their findings to the Mayor
and Council.
The matter of cutting certain trees in Kenwood Park was dis-

cussed , and on motion of Councilman Brown the matter was referred
to the Mayor and Park Committee with power to act.
A petition was received asking for the location of an incan-
descent light at the corner of alalnut and Faulkner Street. Same
was referred to the Street and Alley Committee.
The application for a pool hall license from W. E. Gordon
was taken up, and the committee asked for further time. On motion,
further time was granted.
A resignation from A. L. LOgan as a member of the Salina Police
Force was received, and on motion of Councilman Brown was accepted.
The monthly reports of the City Clerk, City Treasurer, Police
Judge and Fire Chief was received and ordered filed.
On motion of Councilman Brown, Council adjourned.
