COUNCIL CHAMBER,
SALINA, KANSAS.
DECEMBER 21, 1917.
BE IT RE1MEMBERED, That on this Friday evening, December 21st,
1917, the Mayor and Council met as a Board of Canvassers, (ex -officio)
as provided by law, to canvass the vote cast at the Special Election
held in the city of Salina, Kansas, on the 18th day of December,
1917, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the
city of Salina, Kansas, the following proposition: "Shall the City
of Salina, Kansas, adopt the provisions of Chapter 86 of the Session
Laws of Kansas for 1917, the same being entitled, 'An Act relating
to the government of all cities in Kansas and to establish an option-
al form of government."
Mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the
following named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood,
Grimes, Henry, Smith, Brown, Waite and Peters. Councilmen Mishler,
Reed and Todd absent.
The returns of the Special Election were i esented by the
City Clerk and opened by the Mayor in the presence of the Councilmen
assembled, duly canvassed and the result declared, and the City
Clerk was directed by vote of the Board to spread upon the Journal
the result of the canvass which is done as follows, to -wit*

And that the City Clerk make record as the result of the can-
vass that the Board finds that the following proposition: "Shall
the City of Salina, Kansas, adopt the provisions of Chapter 86 of
the Session Laws of Kansas for 1917, the same being entitled, 'An
act relating to the government of all cities in Kansas, and to estab-
lish an optional form of government," was legally defeated by the
following vote;

On motion of Councilman Underwood the report and findings
of the Canvassing Board was received and ordered spread upon the
Journal.
On motion of Councilman Brown, Canvassing Board, adjourned.
