07-19-1917 Minutes• u ouncil Proceedings, Adjourned Meeting. COUNCIL CHAMBER, SALIVA, KANSAS. JULY 19th, 1917. Adjourned Meeting of the City Council, July 19th, 1917. mayor Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. A. Spencer and the following named councilmen answered to roll call; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. Councilman Peters absent. Salina Light, Power & Gas Company, presented a request fora — special permit to excavate in the alley between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, north of Iron Avenue, at the rear of The Overland - Salina Company, for the purpose of installing a gas service. On motion of Councilman Brown a special permit was granted. A petition was received asking for the curbing, guttering, ex- cavating, grading and paving of Ninth Street, from the north line of Otis Avenue to the south line of Euclid Avenue. Same was refer- red to the Street and Alley Committee. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance provid- ing for the construction of certain sidewalk in the city of Salina, Kansas." On motion of Councilman Henry the rules of order were suspend- ed for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown. 4aite and Todd. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Peters absent. On motion of Councilman Henry the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishlre, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is num -- bered 2072. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance provid- ing for the reparing of certain sidewalk in the city of Salina, Kan- sas." On motion of Councilman Brown the rules of order were suspm d - ed for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Peters absent. On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2073. Building Committee reported by ordinance entitled: "An ord- inance providing for the erection, construction and completion or a Fire Station for the City of Salina, Kansas, and letting the con- tract therefor." On motion of Councilman Underwood the rules of order were suspended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (8) Nays: Smith (1) Councilman Peters absent. On motion of Councilman Henry the ordinance was read and adopt- ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Reed, Brown, Waite and Todd. (9) Nays: (0) Council- man Peters absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 2074. Bids for the plumbing, heating and wiring of the new Fire Sta- tion were taken up, and on motion of Councilman Reed the matter was deferred until an Adjourned Meeting of July 20th, 1917. Motion adopted. Councilman Grimes of the Fire Department Committee recommend- ed the purchase of an Overland car for the Fire Department. On motion of Councilman Mishler the report of the committee was accepted, and the purchase of an Overland car for 01,000.00 was ordered. Motion adopted. 1 I PAZ 1 F� 1 1 1 Councilman Mishler moved that the car be painted and lettered similar to the car already in service. Motion adopted. Councilman Brown moved that the City Clerk instruct The Salina Light, Power & Gas Company to install an incandescent light at the southeast corner of the Court House Grounds. Motion adopted. Geo. Shuler inquired of the Council, as to whether or not he should audit the Fire Chief's accounts back to the beginning of Chief Camp's term. Councilman Brown moved that the matter be referred to the Aud- iting Committee. .On motion of Councilman Henry, Council adjourned until Friday evening, July 20th, 1917. eWAa, City Clerk. 443
