Adjourned meeting of the City council, June 25th, 1917. Mayor
Mathews presiding, City Attorney G. 41. Spencer and the following
named councilmen answered to roll call; Underwood, crirres, Henry,
Smith, Mishler, Brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. Councilman Reed
absent.
Ways and Means Committee reported on the petition asking for
the closing of pool halls, as follows:
We, your Committee, to whom was referred for investigation
and report, the question as to whether or not, pool and billiard
halls should be allowed to operate in the City of Salina, desire
to recommend that the matter be submitted to the voters of said City
at the next regular City Election to be held in April, 1918.

Councilman Todd moved that the report of the committee be
adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance speci-
fying and selecting the material to be used and letting the contras,
for the curbing and guttering of certain streets in the city of
Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman Brown the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the followinLite,vote; Ayes: Under-
wood, Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, Brown, Todd and Peters.
(9) Nays: (0) Councilman Reed absent.
On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had: Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry,
Smith, Mishler, Brown, Wiate, Toddrand Peters. (9) Nays: (0)
Councilman Reed absent. The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bered 2058.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance speci-
fying and selecting the paving material to be used and letting
the contract for the paving and excavating of certain streets in
the City of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman brown the rules of order were suspend-
ed for its consideration by the following vote: Ayes: Underwood,
Grimes, Henry, Smith, Mishler, brown, 6+aite, Todd and Peters.
(9) Nays: (0) Councilman Reed absent.
On motion of Uouncilman Henry the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Underwood, Grimes, Henry, Smith,
Mishler, -brown, Waite, Todd and Peters. (9) Nays: (0) Coun-
cilman Reed absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered
2059.
The acceptance from the United States Automatic Fire Alarm
Company of Kansas City, Missouri, acceptin the franchise grant-
ed by the Uouncil, June 7th, 1917, as per Urdina.nce No. 2045, was
received and ordered spread upon the records.

Automatic Fire Alarm Company hereby accepts an ordinance of the
city of Salina, Kansas, numbered 2045, entitled, "An ordinance
granting to the United states Automatic Fire Alarm Company of
Kansas City, Missouri, its successors and assigns, the right to
operate and maintain automatic fire alarm systems in the city of
Salina, Kansas," passed in Council at a meeting of the Mayor and
Councilmen of said on June 7th, 19171, and approved by the Mayor
of said City on June 7th, 1917, and published on June 9th, 1917,
and all the terms, provisions and obligations of said ordinance,
and the said United States Automatic Fire Alarm Company covenants
and agrees with the City of Salina, Kansas, to faithfully perform
all the terms and obligations of said ordinance on its part to
be performed as therein stated.

Company has duly caused these presents to be signed by its Secre-
tary and its corporate seal to be hereunto affixed this 22nd day
of June, 1917.

The matter of extending the Electric Light contract of the
Salina Light, Power & Gas Company, for street lighting, was dis-
cussed.
Councilman Brown moved that the matter be referred to the
Corporation and Franchise Committee to report at the next Regu-
lar Meeting.
Building Committee reported favorably on the plans and
specifications for the new Fire Station, and on motion of Council-
man Underwood, the same were adopted by the Council, and the City -
Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids to be received July
16th, 1917. Motion adopted.
The Building Committee's report on the construction of a
store house shed on the City's lot at the corner of Seventh and
Decatur was received, and on motion the shed was authorized to be
constructed at the rear of the lot, instead of on the north side
of same.
Councilman Waite of the Parks and Parking Committee asked
fof fifty additional seats to be used in the City Park,
Councilman Brown moved that the matter be referred to the
Parks and Parking Committee to report at the next meeting.
Councilman Underwood reported that there was some difficulty
between the Water Works Uompany and the consumers on East Ash
Street. The `'atter was referred to the City Attorney for in-
vestigation.

City Engineer, P. U. Wakenhut, stated that Santa Fe Avenue
and Ninth Street did not run parallel, and asked if he should
follow the curb or street line for the new paving ordered in.
Councilman Brown moved that the curb should be constructed ---
on a straight line on both Santa Fe Avenue and Ninth Street.
On motion of Councilman Brown, Council adjourned.
