Adjourned Meeting of the City Council, Auc;ust 11th., 1916.
President of the Council and Acting 14ayor, Taylor i --filler presiding,
City Attorney U • B • Crowther and the following named councilmen
answered to roll call; Miller, Underwood, Henry, Swedenburg, iv ish-
ler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. Mayor Putnam and Councilmen
Wolff and Bateman absent.
The Citizens Committee to whore was referred the matter of as-
certaining the wish of the property owners in regard to the kind
of _pavement to be laid on Santa Fe Avenue, from 'iialnut to IL"Orth
Streets, was present, and Councilman Bron moved that the Street and
Alley Committee confer with the committee and make a report to the
Council. Motion adopted.
The Comr.!ittee reported that accordinp-; to petitions there was
2860 feet frontage for Asphalt and 1750 feet frontage for brick.
There being a majority for Asphalt, Councilman Brown moved that the
report of the Committee be adopted and that the contract for the
paving of Santa ie Avenue from Walnut to Forth Streets be awarded
to h. H• Young & Copany, as per their bid of w1.00per square yard
for Trinidad Asphaltic Concrete. Motion adopted.
Councilman Henry moved that the contract for the guttering
of Santa Fe Avenue from 111alnut to north Streets be awarded to
Erickson Lro;., as per their bid. D oti.on adopted.
Councilman Bro;:in moved that the City Clerk return the certified
checks to the unsuccessful bidders. lw;Ot ion adopted.
Councilman Brown moved that the matter of sending the Fire
Chief to the rlat Tonal Convention be taken up.
Councilman Ostberg moved that the Chief be sent and that the
City pay the necessary expenses. Motion adopted.
The appraisers report on damage sustained by reason of open-
ing, widening and extending Bishop Street in the city of Salina,
from the west line of Thirteenth Street to the east line of College
Avenue was received and on motion was ordrerd filed.
Taylor Biller asked for a special permit to construct a cement
block building on East Ash Street, same being in the fire limits.
On motion the permit was granted.
On motion of Councilman Mathews, Council adjourned.
