Called meeting of the City Council May 22nd, 1916. Mayor
Putnam presiding, City Attorney W. B. Crowther and the following
named councilmen answered to roll call; Miller, Underwood, Wolff,
Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and 1�. athews . Council-
man Bateman absent.
The request for the meeting and the report of service on the
same was read as follows:

We, the undersigned members of the city council of
the City of Salina, Kansas, hereby respectfully request you to
call a special session of such City Council, to meet in the Council
Chamber on May 22d, 1916, at 8 o'clock P. IU1. for the purpose of
considering the repavement of Santa Fe Avenue in said City; the
opening, widening and extending of Bishop Street in said City; and
the matter of refunding or waiving any license assessable against the
C. Y. avortham Shows to appear in Salina the week beginning May 22,
1916.

In compliance with the above and foregoing request
and for the purposes therein named, I hereby call a special session
of the City Council of Salina, to meet on the 22d day of May,
1916, at 8 o'clock c. 1-vi. at the Council Chamber in said City, and
the City Marshal is hereby d irectd to notify each of the council-
men and the City Attorney of said meeting and make due return of said
notice hereon.

I hereby certify that I have notified Councilmen
Miller, Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Mishler, Swedenburg, Brown, Ost-
berg and Mathews of the above mentioned special meeting by reading
to each of said Councilmen the above and foregoing call for such
meeting in person. Councilman Bateman out of City.

F. i). Blundon appeared before the Council and asked to
have the license remitted to the Isis Patrol, for the C. n. tortham
Shores, I4aay 22d to 27th, inclusive.
Councilman lVishler moved that the license be remitted, and on _
roll call the motion was lost by the following vote; Ayes: Underr
wood, Mishler, Ostberg and Brown. (4) ways: Miller, Wolff, Henry,
Swedenburg and Mathews. (5) Councilman Bateman absent.
Councilman Miller moved that the vote be re -considered. Mo-
tion adopted.
Councilman Piller moved to amend the original motion to remit
755 of the license. Amendment carried, and the original motion as
amended carried by the following vote; Ayes: Miller, Underwood,

Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg and Brown. (7) Nays: Wolff
and Mathews. (2) Counc ilnan Bateman absent.

An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance vacat-
ing a certain portion of Bishop Street in the city of Salina, Kan-
sas, as hereinafter described."
On motion of Councilman Mathews the rules of order were sus-
_oended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Mill-
er, Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown
and Mathews. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Bateman absent.
On motion of Councilman Mathews the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Henry,
Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. (8) Nays:
Wolff (1) Councilman Bateman absent. The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 1947.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance provid-
ing for the approrpriation and condemnation of certain real est-
ate in the city of Salina, Kansas, for the purpose of opening, wid-
ening and extending Bishop Street in said City, between Thirteenth
Street and Twelfth Street; providing for the appointment of apprais-
ers and prescribing their duties."
On motion of Councilman Mathews the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Miller,
Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and
Mathews. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Bateman. absent.
On motion of Councilman Mathews the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Wolff,
Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. (9)
Kays: (0) Councilman Bateman absent. The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 1948.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance providing
for the appropriation and condemnation of certain real estate in
the city of Salina, Kansas, for the purpose of opening, widening
and extending Bishop Street in said City, between Thirteenth Street
and College Avenue or Fifteenth Street; providing for the appoint-
ment of appraisers and prescribing their duties."
On motion of Councilman Miller the rules of order were sus-
pended for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: Mill-
er, Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown,
and Mathews. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Bateman absent.
On motion of Councilman Ostberg the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Wolff,
Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. (9 )
Nays: (0) Councilman Bateman absent. The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 1949.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance appoint-
ing
ppoint-
ing Fred H. Quincy, T. D. "'itzpatrick and C. L. Vvight, as appraisers
to assess the damage caused by the condemnation and appropriation
of the property provided to be condemned and appropriated for the
widening and extending of Bishop Street, by Ordinances Nos. 1948
and 1949."
On motion of Councilman Swedenburg the rules of order were
suspended for its condsideration by the following vote; Ayes:
Miller, Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg,
Brown and Mathews. (9) Nays: (0) Councilman Bateman absent.
On motion of Councilman Brown the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Wolff, Henry,
Swedenburg, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. (9) Nays: (0)
Councilman Bateman absent. The Mayor approved the same and is
numbered 1950.
Fred H. Quincy presented a petition asking for the re -sur-
facing of Santa Fe 21venue, from Walnut Street to the Union Pacific
tracks.
Councilman VJolff moved that the matter be referred to the
Street and Alley Committee and City Attorney and the City Engineer,
to make a report at the next regular meeting. Motion adopted.

A resolution was introduced entitled: "A resolution pro-
viding for the re -paving and re -guttering of Santa Fe Avenue from
Walnut Street to North Street."
Councilman Brown moved that the rules of order be suspend-
ed for its consideration. Motion lost by the following vote;
Ayes: Miller, Mishler, Ostberg, Brown and Mathews. (5)
Nays: Underwood, Wolff, Henry and Swedenburg. (4) Councilman
Bateman absent.
Councilman Brown moved that the resolution be referred to —
the Street and Alley Committee. Motion lost by the following
vote; Ayes: Miller, Mishler, Brown and Mathews. (4) Nays
Underwood, Wolff, Henry, Swedenburg and Ostberg. (5) Council-
man Bateman absent.
On motion of Councilman Ostberg, Council adjourned.
