Adjourned meeting of the City Council April 7th, 1916. Mayor
Putnam presiding, City Attorney W • B. Crowther and the following named
councilmen answered to roll call; Miller, Carney, Nolff, Swedenburg,
N ishler, Hagler, Ostberg and Iiiathews . Councilmen Underwood and Bate-
man absent.
A deed covering certain ground to be deeded by the City of Salina
to The Missouri Pacific Railway Company and 'he Chicago, Rock -Island
and Pacific Railway Company was presented.
On motion of Councilman Swedenburg the Mayor and City Clerk were
authorized to sign said deed, and the City Attorney was instructed to
prepare an ordinance authorizing the same. Motion adopted.
An -ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance appropriat-
ing the sum of 6550.00 for the payment of a judgment rendered in the
District Court of Saline County, Kansas, against the City of Salina,
in the case of I':alinda I"cGilvary, et al., versus the City of Salina,
Kansas."
On motion of Councilman Carney the ordinance was read and adopt-
ed by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the
following vote was had; Ayes: Carney, Wolff, Swedenburg, Mishler,
Hagler, Ostberg and Mathews. (7) Nays: (0) Councilman iI. iller
not voting. Councilmen Underwood and Bateman absent. The Mayor ap-
proved the same and is numbered 1932.
Father Maher and Raymond Geis appeared before the Council and ask-
ed that the Council take some acticn in extending the water mains to
accommodate the new academy that is to be built adjacent to the City
limits on Iron Avenue.
The matter was generally discussed and the Mayor referred the
same to the Corporation and Franchise Committee, to take up the mat-
ter with the different parties interested and to report at a future
meeting of the Council.
Street and Alley Committee submitted the following report on
the remonstrance for the paving of College Avenue, from Walnut to
South Streets:
Salina, Kansas, April 7, 1916.
To the Hon. viayor and Councilmen,
Salina, Kansas.
Gentlemen:
7e, your Committee, to whom was referred the remonstrance
against the paving, curbing, guttering and excavating of College
Avenue, from Walnut Street to South Street, beg leave to report as
follows:
"On investigation we find that a majority of the resident
property owners have signed said remonstrance, and we therefore re-
port that said resolution passed by the Council February 9th, 1916,
is defeated." -

On motion of Councilman Wolff the report of the Committee was
adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance vacating a
certain portion of Bishop Street in the city of Salina, Kansas."
On motion of Councilman ilv' iller the rules of order were suspend-
ed for its consideration by the following vote; Ayes: huiller, Car-
ney, Wolff, Swedenburg, ' ishler, Hagler, Ostberg and Mathews. (6)
Nays: (0) Councilmen Underwood and Bateman absent.

On motion of Councilman Miller the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; byes: Miller, Carney, Swedenburg,
iv ishler, Hagler, Ostberg and V athews . (7) flays : 171o1ff { 1)
Councilmen Underwood and Bateman absent. The Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 1933.
City Engineer. r. G. Wakenhut, submitted plans and specifica-
tions and an estimate of cost for the paving, curbing, guttering and
excavating of certain streets in the City of Salina., Kansas.
On motion of Councilman 'Iiller the same were approved and or-
dered filed, and the City Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids
to be received Iay lst , 1916. Pdiot ion adopted.
On motion of Councilman Mathews, Council adjourned.
