NOVEMBER 2, 1914.
Regular monthly meeting of the City Council, November 2nd, 1914.
Mayor Niquette presiding, City Attorney H. u. Tobey and the following
named councilmen answered to roll call: Miller, Underwood, Dodds, Car-
ney, Mishler, Hanly and Hagler. Councilmen Swedenburg, Benson and
Mathews absent.
On motion of Councilman Miller, the reading of the minutes was
dispensed with until the next regular meeting.
An ordinance was introduced entitled, "An ordinance apportioning
and levying special assessipents on certain lots and pieces of ground,
in the city of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of paving, and excavat-
ing the alley between Santa Fe avenue and Seventh street from the south
line of iron avenue to the south line of Lot No. 115 on Seventh street
and No. 116 on Santa Fe avenue, and providing for the collection of
such assessment." On motion of Councilman Carney the rules of order
were suspended for its consideration by the following vote: Ayes:
Miller, Underwood, Dodds, Carney, Mishler, Hanly and Ha ler. (7) Coun-
cilmen Swedenburg, Benson and Mathews absent. Nays: None) On
motion of Councilman Hagler the ordinance was read and adopted by sect-
ions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following
vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Dodds, Carney, Mishler, Hanly
and Hagler. (7) Nays: (None) Councilmen Swedenburg, Benson and
Mathews absent. The mayor approved the same and is numbered 1798.
Mayor Niquette submitted his veto to Ordinance No. 1797 as fol -
lows:
TO THE COUNCIL: -----
I herewith return to you with my disapproval and veto
Ordinance No. 1797, being an ordinance entitled, "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim".

Councilman Dodds moved that the Contractor Otto Peterson, be
required to replace all broken tiles, and complete the Ash Street sewer
according to plans and specifications; work to be commenced within
thirty (30) days from date. Motion adopted by the following vote:
Ayes: Dodds, Carney, Mishler, Hanly and Hagler. (5) Nays: (None)
Councilmen Miller and Underwood not voting, and Councilmen Swedenburg,
Benson and Mathews absent.
Ex fireman, Britt, appeared before the Council, and asked for some
action to be taken on the bill that he filed at the last regular meeting.
No action taken by the Council.
On motion of Councilman Carney, Council adjourned.
