A communication from the Billiard Hall Association of the City, was presented, read and ordered filed. R. Young & Company, J. S. McLaughlin & Sons, Beebe Construction Company, and Shelby & Downard. A petition from the propetty owners on Tenth Street, asking that the street be paved with Asphaltic -Concrete, was presented and read; also a petition from the property owners on Highland avenu, asking that High- land avenue be paved thirty (30) feet wide between curbs, and each signer specifying his Preference as to the kind of pavement to be laid, was pre- sented and read. (Three) Councilmen Car- ney and Hanly absent. 55 56 Councilman Benson then introduced an ordinance entitled, "An ord- inance specifying and selecting the paving material to be used, and letting the contract for the paving and excavating and for the curbing and gutter- ing of certain portions of Highland Avenue, and amending Sections One and - Two of Ordinance No. 1765.", and moved that the rules of order be suspended for its consideration. The motion was seconded and put by the Mayor, and upon roll call the motion was lost by the following vote: Ayes; Sweden - burg, Mishler, Hagler, Benson and Mathews. (Five) Nays: Miller, Under- wood, Dodds. (Three) Councilmen Carney and Hanly absent. Thereupon Councilman Benson introduced, and had read the last above described ordinance selecting and specifying the paving material to be used on Highland Avenue, and letting the contract for paving, curbing and gutter- ing said street, and moved that the same be referred to the proper committ- ee and go over under the rules. Motion adopted and the•Mayor referred the same to the Street and Alley Committee to report on at the next regu- lar meeting of the Council. 1 Councilman Benson introduced and had read the above ordinance entit- led, "An ordinance specifying and selecting the paving material to be used, and letting the contract for the paving and excavating and curbing and gut- tering of certain portions of Tenth Street in the city of Salina.", and moved that the same be referred to the proper committee and go over under the rules. Motion adopted and the Mayor referred the same to the Street and Alley Committee, to report on at the next regular meeting of the Council. The following ordinance was introduced entitled, "An ordinance auth- orizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute, on behalf of the City of Salina, a certain supplemental agrrrment between the Missouri Pacific Railway Com - )any and the City of Salina, hereinafter fully set forth, and ratifying and confirming the action of said Mayor and Clerk in signing said supple- mental agreement and affixing the corporate seal of said City thereto". On motion of Councilman Dodds, the rules of ordere were suspended for its con- sideration by the following vote; Ayes; Miller, Underwood, Dodds, Sweden - burg, Mishler, Hagler, Benson and Mathews; (Eight) Nays; (None) Coun- cilmen Carney and Hanly absent. On motion of Councilman Hagler the ord- inance was read and adopted by sections, and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Miller, Underwood, Dodds, Swedenburg, Mishler, Hagler, Benson and Mathews. (Eight) Nays; (None) Counciliiien Carney and Hanly absent. The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 1772,E Councilman Benson moved that the Dog Catcher be paid twenty-five cents (25y) for each dog he registers. Councilman Benson moved that the Street Commis--ioner be made a Special Police to enforce the Weed Ordinance. A petition was received, asking for the location of an arc light on the corner of Highland Avenue and Wilson Avenue. Same was referred to the Street and Alley Committee. The monthly reports of the City Clergy:, City Treasurer, Police Judge and I+'ire Chief, were received and ordered filed.
