03-09-1931 Minutes362 COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. COIvMISSIONERS ROOM, SALINA, KANSAS. MARCH 9, 1931. _ i I l Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, March 9, 1931. Meeting was called to order by Tviayor Dodds, the roll was called and I Commissioners Dodds, Stevenson and Moore and City Attorney Norris I responded. I f i The minutes of the Regular Meeting of !,larch 2, 1931 were read and approved as read. Bids for the repair of Ohio Street Bridge as advertised for j I received from: J. E. Hed H.J.Taylor Construction Company. City Engineers estimate of cost for the above work was read. i Commissioner Stevenson moved that contract be awarded to J. E. Hed for construction of Steel Column Type Abutment and approach span for the south end of the Ohio Street bridge at a price of $2324.00, and that City Clerk be instructed to return check to unsuccessful bidder, and that Mayor be authorized to sign contract on behalf of the City for such work. Taylor Construction Company' } J. E. Hed R. C. Snyder City Engineers estimate for the above work was read. Commissioner Stevenson moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Construction Company subject to the approval of the State Board of Health, and that City Clerk be instructed to return certified checks to unsuccessful bidders, and that Mayor be authorized to sign contract on behalf of the City for such work. Motion carried by the Following vote: Ayes: Dodds, Stevenson and Dodds (3) Nays: (0) An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was c:-alled and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds, Stevenson and Moore (3); Nays: (0) Mayor approved the same and is numbered 4030. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds, Stevenson and Moore (3) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the same and is numbered 4031. A petition was presented asking for the vacation of the alley between Blocks 1 and 2 in ?leasant View Addition. Same was ordered filed. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance vacating certain alleys in Pleasant View Addition in the City of Salina, Kansas." On motion of Commissioner Moore same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. Plat of Beverly Manor and certificate thereto presented to the Board of Commissioners, and on motion of Commiissioner:-Stevenson same was approved by the Bca rd of CorEmissioners. The following comrriunication was received from the " aterworks Advisory Board: 1 1 1 1 C A called meeting of the Water Works Advisory Board was held at the National Bank of America Tuesday afternoon "larch 3, 1931, 3:30 P. M. with the following members present: Messrs. Roy Bailey, Chairman, F. D. Kastner, Leon Stevenson_, H. L. Brown, Secretary and R. J. Paulette City Engineer. The advisability of purchasing an additional pumping unit for use at the pumping sta'5i.on was discussed. After some discussion Mr. Kastner made a motion that they recommend the purchase of a 4500 to 5000 gallon pump to be installed in the pumping station so as to be ready for the Meavy summer load. This motion was seconded by Mr. Stevenson and the vote taken was unanimous. Mr. Kastner made a motion that at least one hydrant each at St. Johns Military School and Kansas Vesleyan University be replaced. with hydrants having steamer connections. This motion was seconded by Mr. Stevenson_ and the vote taken was unanimous. No further business ap.)earing the meeting was adjourned. H. L. Brawn, Secretary On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the above recorariendations were approved by the Board of Commissioners and the Waterworks Super- intendent instructed to make purchase.
