Salina, Kansas, January 28, 1931.
To the Honorable Board of Commissioners,
City of Salina, Kansas.
E
Gentlemen:
At a meeting at 4:00 P. M. Tuesday, January 27th, for con-
sideration of the Johnstown Avenue Storm Sewer Project, this Board
unanimously decided to ask for indef inie delay in the construction
of the Johnstown sewer as originally planned.
Consideration was given to the need of some method to temporari-
ly take care of the storm water problem on Iron Avenue, and after
consulatation and discussion it was agreed with the City Engineer
that temporary relief may be provided if the following recommendations
would be adopted by the Commission:
(a) The construction of a relief sewer from Iron
Avenue and Front Street, north in Front Street
to the river. Estimated cost $2200.00.
(b) The construction of a connection between the Penn
Avenue sanitary sewer and the Ash Street sewer at
Penn Avenue ash Ash Streets, giving the inlets at
that intersection direct connection to the Ash
Street sewer. i'stimated cost $300.00.
(c) Reconstruction of the relief opening from the Ash
Street sewer to the river at the Ash street Bridge.
j Estimated cost 42300.00.
(d) tanstruction of inlets on Kansas Avenue between
`lsh and Johnstown',connected-to the new sanitary
sewer. Estimated cost $50.00.
i
TOTAL ESTIMATED COST $4850.00
I
The Board were unanimous in their approval of the above
work as an immediate project for construction, and further
recommend that this work should be done under the supervision of
the City Engineer's office and by the use of hand labor from the
unemployed local residents of Salina.
"e believe that the above work will take care of the con-
ditions as they now exist.
yye continue to recognize the Johnstown Sewer Project as a
necessary requirement of the future and that this temporary con-
struction does not in any way eliminate the eventual necessity for
a sewer on Johnstovm Avenue.
yIe will thank you for consideration of our approval of the
above work, and if accepted, urge immediate action in the matter.
Respectfully yours,
BOARD OF PUBLIC ViTORKS .
By, Chas. L. Schwartz,
