Meeting was called to order by Mayor Helvering, the roll was called and Commissioners Helvering and Campbell responded. Commissioners Dodds and City Attorney Norris absent. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 2nd, 1926 were read and approved as read. Bids for the construction of a storm sewer on Ellsworth Avenue and Ash Stret as advertised for were received from: Snyder be Yeilert, Salina, Kansas. L. W. Rexroad, Salina, Kansas. Commissioner Campbell moved that bids for the construction of the above named sewers be rejected, by reason of same being above City Engineers estimate, and that the City Clerk re -advertise for bids to be received up to and including June 14th, 1926 at 5:00 P. M. Bids for the curbingand surfacing with sand clay College 'venue from South Street to Morrison A venue; Curbing, guttering and surfacing with sand clay Ash Street from Missouri Pacific Railroad Right-of-way to Olive ''treet; Curbing and graveling_, with sand clay Ellsworth Avenue- from Santa Fe 7tvenue to Osborne Jtreet; Graveling with sand clay Third Street— from Iron Avenue south to the Smoky Hill River; and Paving Baker Streit from South Street to Morrison Avenue, were received from: L. vi. Rexroad, Salina, Kansas. San Ore Construction Co., McPherson, Kansas. Commissioner Campbell moved that cdhtract be awarded to L. Rexroad as per his bid sumbitted and that certified check be returned to unsuccessful bidder. 116tion adopted. Commissioner Campbell moved that Baker Street from South Street to Morrison Avenue be paved with vibro-lithic pavement and that contract be awarded to L. e,. Rexroad as per his bid submitted. Potion adopted. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled; "An ordinance providing that certain unplatted tracts of land and certain platted additions or sub -divisions which have been sub -divided into lots and blocks be added to, taken into and made parts of the City of Salina, Kansas; extending the City limits of said City so as to include such added land and repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance." On motion of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance fixing a licenst tax on billiard and pool tables, providing for the issuing of licenses and conditions thereof, regulating pool and billiard halls, limiting the number thereof, providing penalties for the violation and repealing Ordinance Number 201£3." On motion of Commissioner Campbell same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. 188 A petition was Ir esented setting forth that that portion of Iron Avenue between the east end of the concrete bridge across the Smoky Hill River and the present eastern city limits at the intersection of such limits with Iron Avenue, being the center line of Section 183, Township 14, Range 23, should be especially illuminated and that an additional system of lights is necessary for that purpose and that such illumination thereof will be conducive to public convenience and welfare, which petition purported to be signed by the resident owners of more than half of the feet owned by the residents and fronting oto abutting upon that portion of Iron Avenue above described and praying the governing body of the City to especially illiminate such portion of said street and to construct, install, equip and main- tain an additional system of litg7ts for that purpose, the cost of such construction and installation of such system to be taxed against the abutting property by special assessments in manner provided by law, and payable in ten annual installments, at an expense to said property of not to exceed 21¢ per front foot, such system to consist of what is known as one light white way poles erected at intervals on eith side of such street. On motion of Commissioner Campbell duly seconded and _ carried the Board of Commissioners fixed Monday, June 14th, 1026 at 5:00 P. M. at the Commissioners meeting room in the City Hall, as the time and place for the bearing of such petition and directed the City Clerk to give notice thereof in the official City paper at least five days before the date above mentioned. Mayor Helvering appointed VY. S. Frey, C. J. Peck and Alex berg to act as appraisers in ascertaining the valuation of certain lots and pieces of ground on which to base the cost of: Curbing and surfacing with sand clay College Avenue from South Street to Morrison Avenue; Curbing, guttering and surfacing with sand clay fish Street from Missouri Pacific Railroad Right-of-way to Olive Street; Curbing and surfacing with sand clay Ellsworth Avenue from Santa Fe Avenue to Osborne Street; Surfacing with sand clay Third Street from Iron Avenue south to the Smoky Hill River; Paving Baker Street from South Street to Morrison Avenue.
