On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Chambers and Camp-
bell (21 Nays: (0) Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting
Mayor approved the same and is numbered 3241.
The following resolution was introduced:
'YiHEREAS, William Theisner, who for more than four years
served the City of Salina as City Engineer_, having taken
charge of that office at the time of the change from one form
of government to another, and soon after the City became a city
of the first class, did by his ability, industry and unswerting
devotion to duty during that difficult and important period of
transition and during the period of expansion in public improve-
ments which followed, perform a service to the citizens of
Salina which few others could have done so well and did through
the public works designed and constructed by him, and the records
of his office painstakingly compiled and executed, a t the cost
of many weary hours of labor cheerfully given out of the time
rightfully belonging to himself and his wife, erect to himself
monuments which will long endure in the memories of those who
knew hims as well as of those who knew him only by his works; and
4HEIREAS, by reason of his friendly spirit, his strong person-
ality, his force of character and his q ualities of leadership, he
so endeared himself to those who knew him and who worked with him
that his memory will endure long* after all physical monuments
have crumbled into dust; and
lHREAS, he has been cut down in the prime of his life
and at the threshhold of a career in which his ambition, his
capacity for work and his ability whould have carried him far,
but for his tragic and untimely death; and
VilD=AS, the Governing body of the City of Salina, with
whom 1e was so closely and intimately associated during the years
of his service to said city, desire in some way to express, so far
as may be possible, to his bereaved wife and family the sorrow which
they feel and the sympathy which they have for those who will
most keenly feel his loss;
NOd THE.UFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners
of the City of Salina, that the most sincere sympathy of said Board,
and of the whole City of Salina, be extended to his wife, his
infant son, and to the other members of his family, and that as
an expression in some small measure of the sorrow which they feel,
that a copy of this resolution, be spread upon the minutes of the
Regular Meeting of the Bca rd of Commissioners May 3rd,
1926. Meeting was called to order by Acting P,iayor Campbell, the
roll was called and Commissioners Campbell and Chambers and City
Attorney Norris responded. Commissioner Helvering absent.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 26th, 1926
were read and approved as read, as well as Spe cial Meeting of
April 26th, 1926.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
appropriations for miscellaneous purposes.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Campbell and
Chambers (2) Nays: (0) Commissioner Helvering absent.
"cting Mayor approved the same and is numbered 3240.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An ordinance providing for the curbing, excavating, grading
and graveling with sand clay College Avenue in the City of
Salina, Kansas from the south line of South Otreet to the north
line of Morrison Avenue in said City, and providing for the cost
thereof how the same shall be assessed and the manner of payment
therefor."

Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the City of

On motion of Commissioner Chambers said resolution was
adopted as read by the Board of Commissioners.
A petition was rr esented asking for the extension of
water mains on Sheridan Street from Crawford Avenue to Republic
Avenue.
On motion same was referred to the City IManager for in-
vestigation and to report to the Board of Commissioners as to
the probable cost of same and number of consumers to be served
by said extension. j
A communication was received from Henry H. Eberhardt,
asking for the cancellation of taxicab policy written fnr
H. V. Bumgarner, same to take effect April 15th.,.1926.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers license was cancelled.
Commissioner Chambers submitted his resignation as a mem-
ber of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Salina, Kansas.
Action on same was deferred until Mayor Helvering's return
to the City.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers, Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
