APRIL 19th, 1926.
Regular meeting of the Board. of Commissioners, April 19th,
1926. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Helvering, the roll
was called and Commissioners Helvering, Campbell and Chambers
and City Attorney Norris responded.
The minutes of the Regulfr 1v{ee ting of April 12th, 1926 were
read and approved as read.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adotption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Campbell, Chambers and
Helvering (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bered 3237.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
An ordinance providing for the curbing, guttering, excavating,
grading and graveling of Ash Street in the City of Salina, Kansas
from the west line of the right-of-way of the=1iissouri Pacific
Railway Company to the east line of Olive Street in said City;
and providing for the cost thereof,,how the same shall be assessed
and the manner of payment therefor.
On motion of Commis:A oner Campbell the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Chambers, Campbell
and Helvering (3) Nays: (0) The !Aayor approved the same and is
numbered 3238.
City P%nager Ragle, to whom was referred the petition asking
for the curbing, guttering and graveling of Lincoln Avenue from
Ninth street to Nanta Fe Avenue reported asfollows:
"After investigation I find that the petition was signed
by only a minority of the resident property owners; also that
the wording of the petition was changed specifying the kind of
gravel to be used after the petition had been circulated."
On motion of Commissioner Campbell, City Clerk was instructed
to return the petition to the petitioners notifying them it will
be necessary for them to re -file petition providing for the above
named improvements.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
appropriations for miscellaneous purposes.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Helvering, Chambers
and Campbell (3) Nays: (0) The rmayor approved the same and is
numbered 3235.
City .Engineer submitted estimates for paving work performed
under contracts dated April 12th, 1926, and on motion same were
accepted by the Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "�1n ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Commissioner Campbell the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Campbell. Chambers
and Helvering (3) Nays: (0) The 1'Jayor approved the same and
is numbered 3236.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
"An
ordinance providing for the excavating, and grading and for
the grave lin with sand clay type surface of Third Street in
the City of alina, Kansas from the south line or ron venue thence
south to the Smoky Hill River in said City, and providing for the
cost thereof , �ow the same shall be assessed and the manner of pay-
ment therefor.
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adotption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Campbell, Chambers and
Helvering (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is num-
bered 3237.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:

An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled:
`IAn ordinance providing that certain unplatted tracts of land
be added to, taken into and made a part of the City of Salina,
Kansas, and extending the city limits of said City so as to in-
clude said added land and repealing all ordinances or parts of
ordinances which are in conflict with any part of said ordinance."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was
called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Helvering, Camp-
bell and Chambers (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same
and is numbered 3239.
A petition was presented asking for the curbing, guttering
and graveling of Chicago Avenue from Ash Street to Park Street.
On motion, same was referred to the City Manager.
The appraisers reports for the widening of Seventh Street
from 7.7alnut Street to Elm street;
for the excavating, grading and graveling Tenth Street from
Lincoln Avenue to Grand Avenue; and Thirteenth Street from Union
Pacific Right-of-Vlay to Grand Avenue;
for curbing, excavating, grading and graveling Lincoln Avenue
from Ninth street to Tenth street,
were received, and on motion of Commissioner gampbell, Monday..
April 26th, 1926 at 5:00 P. M. was designated as a special meet-
ing, at which time the reports will be taken up and acted on by
the Board of Commissioners, and the City Clerk was instructed to
give notice in the official City paper as provided by law.
City Clerk was instructed to notify R. A. I,byo that his
indemnity -liability policy for opera ting a taxicab, expires
April 21st, 1926; and that he would have to renew said policy
or he would not be permitted to operate a taxicab after that
date.
Mayor Helvering appointed the following named persons to
serve as members of the Board of Trustees of the Memorial Hall:
Robt. F. Duffens , 3 years from April 1926.

On motion of Commissioner Campbell the appointments were
confirmed by the Board of Commissioners.
Harvey Guertin appeared before the Board of Commissioners
and presented the matter of the City taking over the `nater line
on South Clark Street, south of Vialnut Street, constructed a few
years ago by property owners on that street.
Commissioner Campbell moved that the matter be taken under
advisement by the Board of Commissioners until the next Regular
Mee ting.
On motion, Mayor Helvering was instructed to issue a pro-
clamation, proclaiming the period from April 21st, do April 30th,
1926 inclusive as "Clean Up Week."
On motion of Commissioner Chambers, Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
