f Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, January 20,
1930. Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Dodds, the roll
was called and Commissioners Dodds and Stevenson and City Attorney
{ ; Norris responded. Commissioner Helvering absent.

The minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 13, 1930, were
read and approved as read.

An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
appropriations for miscellaneous purposes."

j On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds and Stevenson (2)
Nays: (0) Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting Mayor approved
the same and is numbered 3826.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An
ordinance.ratifying and confirming a contract for the repair and re-
construction of a certain sewer in Ash Street between Des Moines
Avenue and the Smoky Hill River, and providing for the issuance of
temporary notes to pay such cost pending the issuance and sale of
bonds."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds and Stevenson (2)
Nays :9) Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting Mayor approved the
same and is numbered 3827.
City Clerk showed notice of proposed change in zoning ordinance
and of meeting for protests. No one appeared to object to proposed'
change.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An
ordinance amending Ordinance No. 3188 being an ordinance dividing the
City of Salina into zones or districts and regulating and restrict-
ing the location of trades and industries and the uses of lands in
such districts or zones and defining additional commercial districts

! An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An
ordinance relating to and providing for the condemnation of certain
land and easements necessary, to construct certain drains, canals and
artificial water courses, or to widen or straighten existing drains or
water courses, including the cleaning of the same, or to construct
the necessary levees and enbankments or to raise the grades of any
streets or alleys and approaches to bridges, or to raise said bridges,
so far as the same may be necessary for the construction of said im-
provements for the protection of the City of Salina and public and
private property therein from the overflow or damage by water of waters
of Dry Creek, a water course sunning in and near, and through the City
of Salina, said land and easements lying within the City of Salina or
without the city limits of said city and within five miles therefrom,
all as provided for by Ordinance No. 3820 of the City of Salina; desig-
nated by a benefit district and providing for the appointment of com-
missioners to make an appraisement of the land or easements taken and

to assess the damages therefor and benefits accruing therefrom."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
Application for taxicab license for the year 1930 was received
from Wilbur E. Taylor, and on motion of Commissioner Stevenson same
was granted.
