COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING.
COMMISSIONERS ROOM,
SALINA, KANSAS.
MAY 6th, 1929.
Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, May 6th, 1929.
Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Dodds, the roll was called
and Commissioners Dodds and Stevenson and City tittorney Norris re-
sponded. Commissioner Helvering absent.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 29th, 1929 were
read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
appropriations for miscellaneous purposes."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read
and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds and Stevenson (2)
Nays: (0) Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting Mayor approved
the same and is numbered 3701.
City Engineer submitted Monthly Estimate Number 1, for the
construction of certain curbing, guttering and paving, under contract
awarded to L. V1. Rexroad, March 11th, 1929.
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson, same was approved by the
Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an
appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Stevenson and Dodds (2) Nays:
(0) Commissioner Helvering absent. .Acting Mayor approved the same
and is numbered 3702.
City Engineer submitted Monthly Estimate Number 1, for the con-
struction of certain storm sewers, under contract awarded to 1-+. J. Tay-
lor Construction Company, March 25th, 1929.
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson same was approved by the
Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an
appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds and Stevenson (2) Nays:
(0) Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting Mayor approved the same
and is numbered 3703.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An
ordinance granting to Swift and Company, its successors and assigns,
the right to erect a loading dock on Elm "treet in the City of Salina,
Kansas, and providing for the construction of a subway to be used as
a sidewalk through and under said dock, and the maintenance thereof."
On motion of Commissioner otevenson the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll'was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Dodds and Stevenson (2) Nays: (0)
Commissioner Helvering absent. Acting Mayor approved the same and is
numbered 3704.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an
appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."

An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordi-
providing for the curbing, guttering and paving of Tenth Street from
the north line of Elm Street to the south line of B s op ree , and
providing for the cost thereof, how the same shall be asm,ssed and the
manner of payment therefor."
On motion of Commissioner otevenson same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.

An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An
ordinance providing for the curbing and guttering of Wilson Otreet
from the west line of Ninth Street to the east line of 6eltz Street,
and providing for the cost thereof, how the same shall be assessed
and the manner of payment therefor."
On motion of Commissioner Stevenson same was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
City Engineer submitted plans and specifications and estimate
of cost for the construction of Storm Sewer Number 15, and on mo-
tion of Commissioner atevenson same were adopted and approved by the
Board of Commissioners, and the City Clerk was instructed to advertise
for bids for the above named work, to be received up to and includ-
ing Monday, May 13th, 1929 at 4:00 P. M.
A petition was presented asking for the construction of a
sewer in the alley between Kirwin and Claflin, east from the present
sewer about four blocks. Same was referred to the City Engineer.
City Manager reported favorably on the following sidewalk peti-
tions:
West of alley and also east of 1123 State Street; also to
finish walk west of 1127 State Street; and for the construction of
a sidewalk on the east side of Twelfth Street from Washington Avenue
to Morrison Avenue; and on the south side of Morrison Avenue from
Twelfth otreet east to present sidewalk.
Commissioner Stevenson moved that the City enter into a contract
with Black & Veatch, Consulting Engineers, Kansas City, Missouri, to
s act as consultants in connection with the flood prevention problem
of Salina. Motion adopted.
