04-22-1929 MinutesCOMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance granting to L. E. Keeton, doing business as the Salina Transportation Company, his heirs, successors and assigns, a fran- chise for the maintenance and operation of a system of busses in the City of Salina, and the right to operate busses through, upon and along the streets and alleys or otherpublic highways of the City of Salina, Kansas, for such purpose... On motion of Commissioner Dodds same was referred to the Board of Commissioners. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the construction of a certain storm sewer in the City of Salina to be designated -as atorm Sewer No. 15, and pro- viding for the issuing of Improvement Bonds to pay the cost thereof." I On motion of Commissioner Stevenson same was referred to the i Board of Commissioners. A petition was presented asking for the location of a street light on Putnam Avenue midway between South Street and Morrison Aven- ue. Same was referred to the City Manager, A petition was presented asking for the vacating of the follow- ing alleys: south from Minneapolis to Ellsworth between Highland ' and Ninth Streets; and east of Ninth to Highland Streets{ between Minneapolis and Ellsworth. Same was referred to the City Manager. I COMMISSIONERS ROOM, SALINA, KANSAS. APRIL 22nd, 1929. i Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, April 22nd, 1929. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Helvering, the roll was called and Commissioners Helvering, Dodds and Stevenson and City Attorney Norris responded. I The minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 15th, 1929 and Regular Meeting of April 17th, 1929 were read and approved as read. Swift and Company submitted plans for a subway on Elm Street in front of the Jwift plant, same having been approved by the Board of Education. Mr. Buell appeared before the Board of Commissioners and asked I permission to move popcorn stand south about six feet of the Nation- al bank of America. Commissioner Dodds moved that permission be granted and that six months license be granted. i An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making appropriations for miscellaneous purposes." On motion of Commissioner Dodds the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Helvering, Dodds and Stev- enson (3) Nays: (0) The Mayor approved the same and is numbered 3696. City Engineer submitted final estimate for the construction of wading pool in Country Club Heights Park. Same was approved I by the Board of Commissioners. I An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim." On motion of Commissioner Stevenson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Helvering, Stevenson j and Dodds (3) Nays: (0) The mayor approved the same and is num- i bered 3697. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the curbing, guttering and paving of 1 Fifth Street from the north line of Elm Street to the south line of Norfh— Street, and providing for the cost thereof, how the same shall be assessed and the manner of payment therefor."
