Meeting was called to order b y Mayor Morgenstern, the roll was called and Commission rs Morgen- stern, Branson, I3reon, Ferm and Price and City Attorney Norris responded. i The minutes of the Regular Meetig of April 28, 1941 and May 1st, 1941 were read and approved as read. i Application for taxicab drivers license for the year 1941 received as follows: i R. D. Howry I Commissioner Ferm moved that application be approved and license j granted. Motion adopted. Notice was received of cancellation of insurance covering taxicabs of City j Cab Company. The following eommuncation was received from J. E. Hull, d/b/a City Cab I Company: May 5, 1941. r { City Commissioners, Salina, Kansas. y Gentlemen: Please accept this as request for leave of absence from active service for the City Cab Company, 107 West Ash, Salina, Kansas. This Com- pany wishes to hold all rights to operate after unseen circumstances have been attended to by i the owner. Yours truly, J. E. Hull City Cab Comoany, Salina, Kansas. i i Commissioner Breon moved that request be granted, and that if service is later resumed during 1941, and insurance furnished, cabs for which license has been paid for 1941 be authorized to operate under the same licenses until the ex- jpiration of taxicab licenses December 31, 1941. Motion adopted. Application was received from Roy E. Fowler of the Bell Taxi Company asking for the transfer of taxicab license Number 28 from Chevrolet Sedan, Motor Number 2500683, Serial 5 JB04-20097 to 1940 Ford Sedan, Motor Number 18-277178. Commissioner Breon moved that application be approved by the Board of Commissioners. ! Motion adopted. j A communicationwas presented from the Salina Junior Chamber of Commerce M in reference to "Pony Express" Day program:.. Ordered filed. { An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the curbing, guttering and grading of Eighth Street from the north line of Harsh Street to the south line of Hamilton Street; Tenth Street from the j center line of Wilson Street to the north 300 feet to connect with existing curb and gutter; Eighth Street from the center line of Grand Avenue to the center line i of Woodland Avenue; a portion of Funston Street between Republic Avenue and Sunset Drive; a portion, of Hi hland Circle between Ellsworth Avenue and Jewell i i Avenue; aportion of Persh ng Avenue en Republic Avenue and eloit Avenue; I a portion of Second Street lying north of Iron Avenue; and for the paving and grading of the alley lying between Santa Fe 1ivenue and Seventh Street from the south line of Iron Avenue to the north line of Walnut Street, and providing for the cost of such improvements and now the same shall be assessed and the manner of payment therefor." Ordinance referred to -he Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Breon moved that the City purchase a nower from the John Deere Company at a price of $497.00. Motion adopted. Commissioner Breon moved that all taxicabs of the City be inspected once a year as heretofore. Motion adopted. Mayor Morgenstern submitted the names of John Frederick, L. % Carl and E. D. Martin to act as appraisers in ascertaining the valuation of certain lots and pieces of ground; liable tp special assessment for the cost of curb- ing and guttering: Montrose Street from the south line of Charles Street to the west line of Crawford Avenue; Second Street from the north line of Ash Street to the south line of Elm Street; Re ublic Avenue from the east line of Sheridan Street (on the north side of Repub is) and from the east line of Funston street, an extension of Sheri- dan Street (on the south side of Republic) to the west line of Sherman Street (on the north side of Republic) and to the west line of Pershing, an extension of Sherman Street (on the south side of Republic). Venango Street _from the west line of Sherman Street to the east line of Custer S ree ; Wilson Street from the west line of Sherman Street to the west line of Eleventh Street; Republic Avenue from the west lineof Tenth Street tothe east line of Eleventh Street on the north side of Republic Avenue), and for the paving of: All lying between Santa Fe Avenue and Seventh Street from the south line of Ash Otreet to the north line of Iron Avenue.. Commissioner Farm moved that appointments be confirmed by the Board of Commissionrs. Motion adopted. On motion of Commissioner Price the Board of Commissioners adjourned. City ulerk
