09-16-1940 MinutesCOMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. COMMISSIONERS ROOM, SALINA, KANSAS. SEPTEMBER 16, 1940. Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners September 16, 1940. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Morgenstern, the roll was called and Commissioners Morgenstern, Branson and Price and City Attorney Norris responded. Commissioners Breon and Ferm absent. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of September 9, 1940 were read and approved as read. Applications for taxicab drivers license for the year 1940 received from: Geo. E. Adams William R. Cox Commissioner Branson moved that applications be approved and license granted. Motion adopted. I Chas. H. Bren, C. L. Griffith, et al., representing the Chemaber of Commerce of Salina, kansas, appeared before the Board of Commissioners in reference to reconsideration of action to discontinue special parking privileges to non- residents, physicians and others after November 1, 1940. No action taken. Commissioner Price moved that R. T. Brown be given a special permit for the remodeling of Quincy residence at 680 South Santa Fe Avenue to permit three apartments. Motion adopted. Commissioner Price moved that F. J. Brettle be given permission to erect a temporary sign on North Ninth Street, west of St. John's Military School. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Commissioner Branson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its finaladoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Morgenstern, Branson and Price (3) Nays: (0) Commissioners Breon and Ferm absent. Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered A-85. The matter of the revocation of the cereal malt beverage license of Dan Shore as a General Retailer Class "A", under License No. 6935, granted by the Board of Commissioners on January 8, 1940, under Ordinance Number 4741, pursuant to the notice served on said Dan Shore as directed by the Board of Commissioners on September 9, 1940 came on for hearing. Dan Shore appeared in person. Commissioner Branson moved that the Cereal Malt Beverage License issued to Dan Shore by the Board of Commissioners on January 8, 1940, being License No. 6935 issued under Ordinance Number 4741 to said Dan Shore as a General Retailer Class "A" for his place of business at 626 North Santa Fe Avenue to be carried on under the name of Ur -Way Sandwich Shop be revoked for the reason that Dan Shore has been convicted of the offense of having intoxicating liquor upon the premises covered in said license. The motion was duly carried by the following vote: Ayes: Morgenstern, Branson and Price (3) Nays: (0) Commissioners Breon and Ferm absent. The City Clerk was instructed to revoke such license on his records and to cause notice of such revocation to be served upon said Dan Shore by the Chief of Police. Commissioner Branson moved that E. N. Gant of the Bell Taxi Company be given permission to transfer Taxicab License Number 17 from Studebaker Sedan Model 1939, Serial No. G21371, Motor No. 24734, to Studebaker Sedan, Model 1940, Serial No. G76583, Motor No. 86287. Motion adopted. Commissioner Branson moved that Geo. T. Tibbetts of the Bell Taxi Company be given permission to transfer Taxicab License No. 21 from Studebaker Sedan, Model 1939, Serial No. G22-661, Motor No. 26-476 to Studebaker Sedan, Model 1940, Serial No. G73747, Motor No. 83115. Motion adopted. Commissioner Branson moved that the reinstatement of Taxicab No. 23 owned byJohn Bulleigh, and Taxicab No. 34 owned by Clarence Rowson be denied, and that said parties be required to make application for new license. Motion adopted. Two proposals were received from L. R. Hess in reference to moving City Dump located west of Salina, Kansas. Ordered filed. A communication was received from United Association Plumbing and Steam Fitters, recommending the appointment of R. L. Staunton or Andrew McMuftrie for the Journeyman Plumber on the Plumbers Examining Board. Ordered filed. Commissioner Price moved that the City Manager be authorized to purchase a strip of ground near the Sewage Disposal Station on the corner of Franklin and Wilson Streets. Motion adopted.
