Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners February 5, 1940.
Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Ferm, the roll was called
and Commissioners Ferm, Branson, Breon and Price and City Attorney
Norris responded. Cormissioner Morgenstern absent.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 1, 1940 were read
and approved as read.
Applications for taxicab drivers license for the year 1940 re-
ceived as follows:
Loy A. Buchenau
Alfred Cook
Paul E. Buchenau
Max Lampson
Chas. A. Schultz
Commissioner Branson moved that applications be approved and li-
cense granted. Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making appro-
priation for the payment of a certain claim.".
On motion of Commissioner Branson the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Branson, Ferm and Breon and Price
(4) Nays: T0) Commissioner Morgenstern absent. Acting Mayor approved
the ordirn nce and it is numbered A-61.
Band Contract for the year 1940 was presented to the Board of
Commissioners. On motion of Commissioner Breon contract was approved
by the Board of Commissioners and the Acting Mayor was authorized to
sign the same on behalf of the City of Salina. Motion adopted.
Pursuant to notice published in the Salina Journal bids were re-
ceived for the construction of Storm Sewers Number 25 and 26 as follows:

Busboom & Rauh
City Engineers Estimate of Cost for the above work was read. It
appearing that none of the bids were within the Engineerts estimate,
Commissioner Branson moved that all bids be rejected, and that the
improvements be constructed by the City under the direction of the City
Engineer as provided by law, and that the City Engineer proceed to
construct such improvements, and purchase the necessary tools, apparatus
and materials, employ the necessary labor for doing such work, all within
the amount of the Engineer's Estimate of Cost. Motion carried.
Bids for lumber to be used for repairing Mulberry Street Bridge in
the City of Salina, received as follows-:
Eberhardt Lumber Company, Salina, Kansas.
Long -Bell Lumber Company, Wichita, Kansas.
Wheeler Lumber ; Bridge & Supply Co. Topeka,Kansas
Commissioner Breon moved that bids be referred to the City Engineer
for final check, and that he be authorized to let contract to the low-
est, responsible bidder. Motion adopted.
On motion of Commissioner Breon the Board of Commissioners ad-
journed.
