Regular Leeting of the Board of Commissioners June 27, 1949. Meeting
was called to order by Acting mayor Stephenson, the roll was called and Commission-
ers King, Ramsey, Stephenson and VVebb and Acting City Attorney Yordy responded.
Commissioner Price and City Attorney Clark absent.
The minutes of the Regular iIieeti. g of June 20, 1949 and Special meeting
of June 20, 1949 were read and approved as read.

the construction of sidewalks as follows:

City Engineers Estimate in the amount of w78.00 was read.
Commissioner Piing moved that contract be awarded to Wilbur and Kathary as.
per their bid submitted in the amount of `$65.00., Notion adopted.

COMM L.ssioner Ramsey moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Constructi
Company, as per bid submitted in the amount of :,;4,387.50, and that lyiayor be authorized
to sign contract on behalf of the City of Salina, Kansas. Motion adopted.
Acting Mayor Stephenson appointed J. Earl 4ya,tt, John Frederick and Vim. F.
Grosser, Jr. to act as appraisers to ascertain the valuation of certain lots and
pieces of ;round liable to special assessment for the construction of Lateral Sanitary
Sewers Numbered 240, 241 and 242:., On motion of Commissioner King appointments
confirmed by the Board of Commissioners. lotion adopted.
Letter was presented from Leonard J. Smoot, castor of the University l.etho-
dist Church, protesting liquor license to B. IJ. Erickson, 1516 South idinth Street.
Commissioner !Ling moved that copy be made of letter and forward to Director at
Topeka, Kansas. Carried.
City Lanager reported on petition against the paving of Fifth Street from
Otis Avenue to Euclid Avenue, filed by St. Joh.:s School, 79.5p against. Commissioner
idrig made motion ti,at Resolution Number 1114 relating to he paving of Fifth Street
from vtis Ave ue to Euclid Avenue be tabled and not included in Construction Ordinance.

Taxicab Drivers Application Number 129 was presented, and on motion of Com-
missioner Webb approved by the Board of Commissioners. !'notion adopted.
A petition was presented for water service in Phillips Street from North
Street, south to Railroad Right -of -Way. Petition was referred to the City Manager.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance
amending Section 2 of Ordinancedo. 5209, nd repealing said original section."
Ordina.ce was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introdujed for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
providing a.d establishing the rate to be charged of users of water sold by the Water
Vuorks Department of the City of Salina and providing for increased minimum allowances
to users of such water and providing for repealing of Section 1 of Ordinance No. 5045."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the ordinance was read and adopted by sec-
tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had;
Ayes: King, "amsey, Stephenson and Webb (4) mays: (0) Commissioner Price absent.
Acting layor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 5396.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
relating to and apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and
pieces of -round in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of curbing, guttering,

An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
creating and defining a certain lateral sanitary sewer district in the City of
Salina, Kansas, designated as Lateral Sanitary Sewer District Number 244., and pro-
viding for the construction of a Lateral Sanitary Sewer in said Lateral Sanitary
Sewer District Number 2445 so created, and providing for the payment of the cost
thereof and for the levying of special assessments against the property in said
district for the payment of the cost of such construction and for the issuance of
bonds to pay the cost thereof."
On motion of Commissioner King the ordinance was read and adopted by sec-
tions and on its finaladoption the roll was called and the following vote was had;
Ayes: King, namsey, Stephenson and Webb (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Price absent.
Acting payor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 5400-
A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the curbing and guttering of the west side of Roach Street from the
north line of Claflin Avenue to the south line of Kirwin Avenue."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the resolution was adopted as read and
on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
King, Ramsey, Stephenson and Webb (4) mays: (0) Commissioner Price absent.
Acting mayor approved the resolution and it is numbered 1130.

Assistant City Attorney was instructed to prepare ordinance providing for the
payment of a license tax for the operation of a penny arcade. Five machines or
more, $75.00 first machine; $10.00 on each additional.
