Conwdssioner Pr_ce absent. The minutes of the Regular lieetirg of December 27th, 1948 and Regular I�ieeting of January 3, 1949, were read and approved as read. Seven Freshmen girls and teachers from Lincoln nigh School, attended I,Ieeting to learn Commissioners procedure at meetings. 0. J.r. Brown <:nd others appeared before the Board of Commissioners asking why the acquisition of land next to Sunset Park could not be placed on the election ballot. Representatives appeared from Bell.. Veterans and Radio Cab Companies, about =4,10.00 fee on Taxi Cab %rivers License. Commissioner Stephenson moved that action on same be tabled at this time. Carried. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the rezcning of certa-_n tracts of 1� nd in the City of 1 -Salina, Kansas and providing for the proper use of each thereof." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners. r. L. F. Stephenson was appointed as C.i.ty's representative on Salina Community Chest. Commissioner Lindgren moved that salary of Viater Superintendent be ;325.00 per month. Lotion adopted. An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance fixing the salaries and wages on various city officers and employees of the City of Salina, hansas, and empowering the City 1,,ianager of said City to employ such other employees as he deems necessary for the various departments of the said Oity, as now existing or hereafter created, and repealing certain ordinances, parts and sections thereof." On motion of Commissioner Lindgren the ordinance was read and adopted by sec- tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; P. Gas Fitters Bond presented from Eugene V. Baer and 'Niru. F. Pratt, d/b/a Gas and Electric aervice. On motion of Commissioner Stephenson approved by the Board of Com- missioners. Combination Plumbers and Gas Fitters Bond presented from James %. Stack, Jr. d/b/a Stack Plumbing Company. On motion of Commissioner Stephenson approved by the Board. of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced entitled: "A Resolution authorizing and providing for the issuance of Temporary Notes of the City of Salina, Kansas, in the sum of X23,603.28 to pay a portion of the cost of improving certain streets in the City of Salina to:_:e designated as Series ,Io. PT -2, pending the issuance of bonds to pay the cos of said work." On motion of Commissioner Lindgren the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had: Ayes: Stedham, Lindgren, Pdoyce and Stephenson (4) days: (0) Commissioner Price absent. iayor approved the resolution and it is numbered 1080. On motion of Commissioner Lindgren the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stedhan, Lindgren, 7oyce and Stephenson (4) gays: (0) Commissioner Price absent. i:ayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered A-448. A resolution was introduced entitled: "A Resolution authorizing E. J. Allison, as City Dana-er to sign and bind the City of Salina as to one certain Pipe Line License, dated October 24, 1948, by and between the Santa Fe Railway Company and City of Salina, Kansas." 0n motion of Commissioner Noyce the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stedham, Lindgren, Boyce and Stephenson (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Price Absent. Mayor approved the resolution and it is numbered 1081. The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 81, Resolution Book Number 4. Liotion adopted. Pursuant to notice published in the Salina Journal bid was received for the construction of Lateral Sanitary Sewers Numbered 234 and 235 as follows: H. J. Taylor Construction Company, Salina, Kansas. :3925.00 City Engineer's Estimate in the amount of $4,076.00 was read. Bid was tabulated by the City Engineer. Commissioner Lind -ren moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Construct- ion Company, Salina, Kt-nsas, as per bid submitted in the amount of 0,925.50, and that Piayor be authorized to sign contract on behalf of the City of Salina, Kansas. d.otion adopted. mayor Stedham appointed J. Earl v'+yatt, John Frederick and F. grosser, Jr., to act as appraisers .in ascertaining the valuation of certain lots and pieces of land liable to special assessment for the cost of constructing Lateral Sanitary Sewers num' red 234 and 235. On motion of Commissioner Lind -ren appointments were confirmed by the Board of Commissioners. City Engineer submitted his approval for the curbing, guttering and paving certain streets in the City of Salina, Kansas, provided for under contract awarded June 7, 1948, known as Job No. 243. Commissioner Boyce :roved that same be accepted by the Board of Commissioners. Lotion adopted. City Engineer submitted Final Estimate in the amount of ;,T23,603.28 to H. J .
