Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners August 16, 1948. Meeting
was alled to order by 1,�iayor Stedham, the roll was called and Commissioners
Stedham, Noyce, Price, Stephenson and City Attorney Clark responded. Commission-
er Lindgren absent.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 9, 1948 were read and approved
as read.

Applications for taxicab drivers license forme year 1948 presented as

Commissioner Noyce moved that applications be approved and license granted.
Motion adopted.
A resolution was introduced entitled: "A hesolution relating to the issu-
ance of Temporary Notes in the amount of $12,000.00 and $16,587.11."
On motion of Commissioner Price the resolution was approved as read and
on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Stedham, Noyce, Price and Stephenson (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Lindgren
absent. Mayor approved the resolution and it is numbered 1070.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 64, Resolution Book
Number 4.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
making a levy of taxes for general revenue and other purposes by the City of
Salina, Kansas, for the year 1949."
On motion of Commissioner Price the ordinance was read and adopted by sec-
tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was
had; Ayes: Stedham, Boyce, Price and Stephenson (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner
Lindgren absent. bayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 5329•
Letter was presented from L. li. Day, Chief of Police, regarding investiga-
tion of places which have Cereal Malt Beverages. On motion, the City Attorney
was instructed to notify for appearence before the Board of Commissioners, August
30, 1948, at 7:30 o'clock P. M. the following:

Letter presented from Chief of Police, L. H. llay, relating to taxicab
drivers License Number 125 issued to Lloyd H. Cook. Commissioner Price moved that
license be revoked. Motion adopted.
Offer was made to have clock in tower of City Hall repaired. On motion
of Commissioner Noyce, the City Manager was instructed to have clock repaired and to
contact therefor at a cost of $298.00. Motion adopted.
Kansas Wesleyan University request for City to waive requisites of Lanham
Act relating to temporary housing was presented. On motion of Commissioner Noyce
same was rejected as not a condition precedent and due to contract between Kansas
Wesleyan University and the City of Salina relating thereto. Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making appropriation
for the payment of certain claims."
On -,potion of Commissioner Stephenson the ordinance was read and adopted by
sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was
had; Ayes: Stedham, Noyce, Price and Stephenson (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner
Lindgren absent. Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered A-434•

An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance
levying special assessments against certain property to pay the cost of cutting
weeds on certain lots and parts of lots, and theparkways abutting thereon in the
City of Salina." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Noyce moved that City of Salina extend an invitation to the
Youth Caravan "Temperance Tornado", that is coming through Salina, IYednesday,
August 18th, 1918, the use of the Municipal Swimming Pool. Carried.
City Engineer filed plans and speLifications for the construction of Lateral
Sanitary Sewer Number 232. On motion of Commissioner Lindgren same were
approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.
On motion of Commissioner Stephenson the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
