A petition was presented asking for the construction of a sidewalk on south line of Lots 2, 4 and 61 Claflin Street, Grounds of Kansas V�esleyan University, and the west 110 feet of Lot 72, Claflin Avenue, Grounds of Kansas "esleyan University, and on the west line of Lots 68, 70 and 72 on Ninth Street, Grounds of Kansas Wesleyan University. Petition was referred to the City Manager. The matter of rezoning from Class "A" Residential to Class "C" Commercial, Lot 9, on South Ninth Street, Surveyor's Plat "A" was taken up by the Board of Commis- si.on:rs. Petition filed in protest and W. S. Norris appeared in person represent- ing people that made protest. Commissioner Stedham moved that protest be referred to City Manager; he, to take up the matter with Raplee, Miller, Bayne, Norris, Clark and others, and report to the Commissioners at the next meeting. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance fixing the salaries and wages of various city officers and employees of the City of Salina, Kansas, and empowering the City Manager of said City to employ such other employees as he deems necessary for the various departments of said City,as now existing or here- after created, and repealing certain ordinances, parts and sections thereof." Ordinance was referred to the Bbtrd:'af Gemmissioners. • City Manager recommended that petition for lateral sewer in alley between Beloit 'venue and Minneapolis 'venue from Quincy Street!to Osborne be tabled until some future date. Commissioner Lindgren moved that recommendation be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. No persons appeared to protest against the rezoning of Lot 5, Block 14, Oakdale Addition, i rom "fill Residential to 1111 Residential. Decision on ordinance tabled until next meeting. No persons appeared to protest against the rezoning of Lot 1, BLock 27, hutchin- son's Addition from "A" Residential to "B" residential. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance provid- ing for the inclusion of certain land in the City of Selina, Kansas, in the "B" Residential District as defined by Section 4 of Ordinance Number 3188, as amended, and providing for the proper use thereof." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners. 296 City Planning Commission recommends the rezoning from "A" Residential to "C" Commercial the following described land: .beginning at a point 445 feet west of the Southeast corner of the Northwest Quarter (NW -41) of 6ection 11, in Township 14, South, Range 3 West of the Sixth t'rincipal Leridian, in Saline County, Kansas; thence North and parallel with the west line of said Quarter Section 190 feet, more or less, to the center of the old channel of Dry Creek, thence in a northeasterly direction along the center of the channel of Dry Creek to a point where said center line touches the West line of U. S. highway By -Pass; thence east to the center of said highway; thence in a southwesterly direction down the center of said highway to its intersection with the South line of the North 1/2 of said Section 11, thence west along said line to the place of beginning." Commissioner Price moved that recommendation of City Planning Commission be approved,and that City Clerk give thirty days notice in the official City paper of intent to rezone the above described land from "A" Residential to "Cr' Commercial. Motion adopted. A resolution was introduced entitled: "A Resolution relating to the issuance of Temporary Note in the amount of �5032.31.rr On motion of Commissioner Stedham the resolution was adopted as read and on its finaladoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Noyce, Lindgren, Price, Stedhan and Stephenson (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolu- tion and it is numbered 1026. The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 19, "esolution Book Number 4. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Commissioner Price the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its fi nal adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Noyce, Lindgren, Price, Stedham and Stephenson (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered A-414. An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance providing for the inclusion of certain land in the City of Salina in "C" Commercial District, as defined in Section 5 of Ordinance Number 3188 and providing for the proper uses thereof." On motion of Commissioner Stephenson the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Noyce, Lindgren, Price, Stedham and Stephenson (5) Nays: (0) iviayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 5280. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance creat- ing and defining a certain Lateral Sanitary Sewer District in the City of Salina designated as Lateral Sanitary Sewer District Number 221, and providing for the construction of a lateral sanitary sewer in said Lateral Sanitary Sewer District number 221 so created, and providing for the payment of the cost thereof and for the levying of special assessments against the proper in said district for the payment of the cost of such construction and for the issuin& of bonds to pay the cost thereof." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners. A letter was presented from Chief of Police informing the Board of Commission- ers that Ronald C. Smith, d/b/a Jukes Grocery at 200 East Pacific, had been arrested on a charge of operating a Game of Chance. Co mmissioner Lindgren moved that City Attorney give notice for him to appear before the Board of Commissioners and show cause why his Beer License Number 9289 should not be revoked. i-otion adopted. Building Application No. 1516 was presented from 14. C. Andreen, asking permission to add to present building located on Lot 2, Block 29, Nd.litary Addition. Commissibner Lindgren moved that application be approved for a 10 -foot setback. ilotionadopted. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A "esolution relating to the curbing and guttering of the northside of cord btreet from the west line of Quincy Street to the center line of Roach Street." Resolution was referred to the Board of Com- missioners. Commissioner Stephenson moved that City pay difference between amount raised by Police Circus and the cost of Police Uniforms. Not approved, by vote of three to two. Commissioner Stephenson moved that uniforms be considered in next years budget for Policemen and Firemen. No second.
