01-16-1933 Minutes1 1 1 1 0 COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING. COMM M SIONERS ROOM, SALIVA, KANSAS. JANUARY 16, 1933. Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners January 16, 1933. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Stevenson, the roll was called and Commissioners Stevenson, Morey, Pafford, Paulsen and Spaeth and City Attorney Norris responded. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 9th, 19332 were read and approved as read. H. C. Paulsen being present and having taken his oath of office as Conmissioner :of the City of Salina, and having filed the same with the City Clerk on January 10, 1933s presented his official bond, duly approved by the Judge of the District Court of Saline County. On motion of Commissioner Pafford, duly seconded by Commissioner Spaeth the bond was approved by the Board of Commissioners, and H. C. Paulsen was declared a duly qualified C.ommissloner.of the City of Salina, and thereupon assumed his office as such Commissioner. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Commissioner Spaeth the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stevenson, Morey, Pafford and Spaeth and Paulsen. (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the same and is numbered 4228. The following co=mmication was received from the City Plan- ning Commission: Salina, Kansas. January 12, 1933• The City Planning Commission.met in regular session at 5:00 P.M. in the Chamber of Commerce rooms.. Members present: Dyar, Bren, Mc- Carty, Byrnes and Reynolds. Members absent: Robb and Leighton. In response to a petition from Mr. Swedenburg requesting the re -zoning of property at 525 Charles, permitting the establishment of a grocery store, the Planning Commission after.listening to the petitioners and those opposing the petition, voted that the petition for this re -zoning be not allowed. There being no further business the Commission adjourned. F. L. �RREzolds Secretary The above comrmmication was referred to the City Attorney. Commissioner Morey moved that the Building Inspector be in- structed to issue a permit to Guy R. Ryan to construct an addition to the rear of his Funeral Home at 137 North Eighth Street. Commissioner Pafford moved that Mayor be authorized to sign release of Gas Fitters Bond #31004-120803 written by the Continental Casualty Company,.on behalf.of R. A. McConnell, d/b/a, R. A. McConnell Furnace Company. Application No. 83, asking for sign to be erected on front of building located at 146 N. Santa Fe Avenue (Montgomery -Ward & Company) was received, and on motion of Commissioner Pafford same was approved by the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced entitled: "A resolution accepting trust proposal of the Governor of Kansas for the establishment and operation of an emergency relief fund from federal emergency relief funds, for the payment of work relief wafes on Work Relief Project No. 14-9 entitled, "Resurfacing Park Drives. On motion of Commissioner Spaeth the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Stevenson, Morey, Pafford, Paulsen and Spaeth (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the same and is numbered 552. ■ i The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 212 of Resolution.Book Number.2. The following communication was presented., relating to the resignation of P. J. Benfield as City Commissioner-of Salina., Kansas: Salina., Kansas. January 168 19339 Mr. Perry J. Benfield., Salina, Kansas. Dear Perry: Having worked with you as a member of the Board of Commis- sioners of the City of Salina for nearly.two years, we wish to assure you that it is with real-regret that we accepted your resignation as a member of the Board. We have all appreciated the spirit of co-operation with which you entered upon the consideration of the many problems which have confronted us during the past two -years, and the thought and care which you gave to the working out of these problems, and it has been a pleasure to be associated with you during this time. You have our beat wishes for success as a member of the Board of County Commissioners, and we know that you will give to your work in that connection the same.careful,attention and conscientious eonsider-I ation that,7ou have always given-to the matters which came before you as a City C onnissioner.
