Regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners January 7,
1935. Meeting was called to order by Mayor Pafford, the roll was
called and Commissioners Pafford, Morey, Peters and Surface and
City Attorney Norris responded. Commissioner Spaeth absent,
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of December 31, 1934,
were read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an
Appropriation for the payment of certain claims."

On motion of Commissioner Peters the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Surface
(4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Spaeth absent. Mayor approved the
ordinance and it is numbered 4491.
The following claim to be paid from Relief Highway Fund
was presented for payment:
Cha s. E. Banker, City Clerk, Cash paid out for la bor $130.70
Commissioner Surface moved that claim be approved by the
Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation from the Relief Highway Fund for the payment of a
certain claim."
On motion of Commissioner Surface the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final a doption the roll was called j
and the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and !
Surface (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Spaeth absent. Mayor approved
the ordinance and it is numbered 4492.
An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making
an appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."

An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance appropriating
and transferring certain moneys from certain other funds or accounts
in the City Treasury."

On motion of Commissioner Surface the ordinance was read and
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Surface
(4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Spaeth absent. Mayor approved the ordi-
nance and it is numbered 4494.
City Engineer submitted Final Estimate for construction of
Lateral Sanitary Sewer Number 170. Commissioner Peters moved that same
be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.

appropriation for the payment of a certain claim."
On motion of Commissioner Morey the ordinance was read and,
adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and
the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Surface
(4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Spaeth absent. Mayor approved the ordi- I
nance and it is numbered 4495.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An
ordinance amending Section 1 of Ordinance No. 3821 relating to the
licensing of pool and billiard tables and payment of license tax
therefor and repealing said original Section 1 of Ordinance No. 3821."

and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called

An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An
ordinance relating to slot machines and other gambling devices;
prohibiting the keeping or maintaining of such devices
and defining
certain misdemeanors and providing a penalty for the violation of this
ordinance.
On motion of Commissioner Peters same was referred to the Board
of Commissioners.
City Engineer submitted Final Estimate of Cost for the construe -
tion of Lateral Sanitary Sewer No. 170. On motion of Commissioner Mor
same was approved by the Board of Commissioners* Morey
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An
ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special assessments
on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of Salina iiansas, to
pay the cost of constructing Lateral Sanitary Sewer No. 170, and relat-
ing to and providing for the collection and payment of such assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Surface same was referred to the Board
Of Commissioners.

Commissioner Surface moved that taxicab drivers license be
granted by the Board of Commissioners to the above named applicants*
Motion adopted*
Application for license to sell malt and cereal beverages in
the City -of Salina for the first six months of 1935 received as follows:
Class "A" Retail License
Those F. Brann, 123 East Iron Avenue
-Class "B" Retail License
Brockman -Carney -Miller Grocery, 115 So Fifth
Shorty's Place, 121 So Fifth Street
Elks Club, 120 No Seventh Street,
Commissioner Surface moved that license be granted by the Board of 1
Commissioners to the above named applicants. Motion adopted.
A petition was presented asking for the construction of a water
main on Sherman Street from Franklin Street to Wilson Street and on
Wilson Street from Sherman Street to Custer Street. On motion, same
was referred to the Waterworks Advisory Board,
A resolution was Introduced entitled: "A Resolution relating
to the application of the City of Salina for Emergency Relief Funds
in connection with the construction of Storm Sewer No, 17 -Bo"
On motion of Commissioner Surface the resolution was adopted as
read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following
vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Surface. (4) Nays: (0)
Commissioner Spaeth absent, Mayor approved the resolution and it Is
numbered 612.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 285 of Resolution
Book Number 2,
Mayor Pafford submitted the name of Wm. F. Grosser, Sr., as
a member of the Board of Trustees of the Salina Municipal Band for a
term of three gears from January 1st, 1935. On motion of Commissioner
Surface the appointment was confirmed by the Board of Commissioners.
Magor Pa fford submitted the name of Chas. W. Shaver and
Leon Stevenson as members of the Waterworks Advisory Board for a term
of three years from January lst, 1935. On motion of Commissioner
Surface the appointment was confirmed by the Board of Commissioners.
Mayor Pafford submitted the name of F. H. Rehm and Carl S.
Byers as members of the Board of Trustees of the Gypsum Hill Cemetery
for a term of three years from January lst, 1935. On motion of Com-
missioner Surface the appointments were confirmed by the Board of Com-
missioners.
Mayor Pafford submitted the name of Chas. L. Schwartz, Cleve
D. Miller and Chas. F. Dodds, as members of the Public Works Board
for a term of two years from December 8, 1934. On motion of Commis-
sioner Surface the appointments were confirmed by the Board of Com-
missioners.
On motion of Commissioner Surface the Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
