The following communication was received from the City Planning
Commission:
Salina, Kansas. December 20, 1934.
Mr. H. Brown,
City Manager,
Salina, Kansas.
Dear Herb:
At the meeting of the City Planning and Zoning Commission
held in the Chamber of Commerce Rooms at 5:00 P. M. on December 192
there appeared Mr. & Mrs. Frank Maus, residents of our city, asking
consideration for the rezoning of property owned by them at the corner
of Tenth and Prescott- this applies to lots 1 and 3, Park's Addition,
being vacant property of 200 feet on Tenth Street and 200 feet on
Prescott.
The purpose of this request for rezoning is for the construction
of a unit structure consisting of twenty-four private living quarters.
The commission, after careful consideration, felt that this
was a worthwhile project and, accordingly, recommends to the City
Commission the favorable consideration of rezoning this property from
A zone to B zone subject, however, to the opinion of the city's
legal advisor.
It is understood by the Commission that Mr. and Mrs. Maus,
previous to coming before them, appeared before you and the City
Commission with their proposed plans and, accordingly, the Commission
is of the opinion that you are familiar with them.
In reference to the petition for the rezoning of the property
at 936 South Santa Fe from A" to a "B" district, the commission
withheld action due to the fact that there are some twenty residential
property owners in the block, of which only four signed this petition
and it was the sense of the commission that before taking action that
the signatures of, at least, the majority residing in the block should
be obtained and that it be for the rezoning of the entire block instead
of one designated piece of property. The petition, therefore, is being
returned to the party interested with a request that additional signa-
tures be secured, and that the petition be for the rezoning of the
entire block instead of one specified location.
Yours very truly,
Chas . H. Brener____
Acting Secretary
City Planning & Zoning Commission.
In reference to the recommendation for the rezoning of the 900
block on South Santa Fe Avenue, Commissioner Peters moved that the mat-
ter be referred back to the Planning Board, asking them to report on the
Petition as submitted to thea. Motion adopted.
City Manager recommended that a street light be installed at
the intersection of Park Street and Eleventh Street; and that the
petition asking for a street light at Seventh Street and Woodland
Avenue be not granted. Commissioner Morey moved that recommendations
be adopted by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted.
On motion of Commissioner Surface the Board of Commissioners
adjourned.
