Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Pafford, the roll was called and Commissioners Pafford, Morey, Spaeth and Peters and City Attorney Norris responded, the vacancy caused by the death of Commis- sioner M. A. Stevenson, Mayor, not having been filled. ' � I The minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 8th, 1934 and Special Meeting of October 10th, 1934, were read and approved as read. The following resolution from the Odd Fellows Lodge was received: ! I. To the Department Council, Patriarchs Militant, I.O.O.F. Department of Kansas. WHEREAS the hand of Death has suddenly stricken from our midst Hon. Marvin A. Stevenson, the honored and generally respected Mayor of the City of Salina, leaving this community in deep mourning; BE IT RESOLVED That this Department Council extend its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and to the City of Salina, and that a floral tribute be sent as a silent expression of the profound respect (i and sincere sympathy of this body, and I j BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That copies of this resolution be sent to the family of the deceased, to the City Commission and to the f local press. i Chivalrously submitted, Bri! An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." E On motion of Commissioner Spaeth the ordinance was read and ! adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and { the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Spaeth j (4) Nays: (0) Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4469. j The following claims to be paid from Relief Highway Fund were presented for payment: j The Texas Company Asphalt $602.40 i & Putnam Sand Building Co., Sand 398.48 Leidigh & Havens Lumber Co., Cement, Lumber, etc., 110.30 j Chas. E. Banker, City Clerk Cash paid out for labor 95.60 H. J. Taylor Construction Co.,Roller and Operator 49.00 Quartzite Stone Company Rock Screenings 40.00 Lee Hardware Company Aluminum & Reinforcing bars- 39.64 Eberhardt Lumber Company Coal 13.35 Golden Belt Lumber Company Expansion Joints 5.75 Commissioner Spaeth moved that claims be approved by the Board of Commissioners. i An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Relief Highway Fund for the payment of certain claims." i On motion of Commissioner Peters the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and , the following vote was had; Ayes: Pafford, Morey, Peters and Spaeth (4) Nays: (0) Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered j 4470. Application of Joe Pickett for Taxicab Drivers license was received, and on motion of Commissioner Morey same was approved by the Board of Commissioners. Acting Mayor Pafford appointed John Frederick, L. W. Carl and E. D. Martin, to act as appraisers in ascertaining the valuation of certain lots and pieces of ground liable to special assessment for the cost of constructing Lateral Sanitary Sewer No. 169 (in the alley north of Claflin Avenue from a point 50 feet West of the west line of Osborne Street to the west line of Fourth Street).- On motion of Com- missioner Morey appointments were confirmed by the Board of Commission- ers. City Clerk Chas. E. Banker and City Attorney W. S. Norris were appointed as delegates to attend the League of Kansas Municipalities Convention to be held in Topeka, Kansas, October 22, 23 and 24, 1934. On motion of Commissioner Peters the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
