Meeting was called to order by Acting Magor Peters, the roll was called and Commissioners Peters, Jackson, Mitchell and Surface and City Attorney Norris responded. Commissioner Pafford absent. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 13, 1935 and Regular Meeting of May 140 1935 were read and approved as read. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." i On motion of Commissioner Surface the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell and Surface (4) Nays: (0) Acting -Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4540. Commissioner Pafford absent. 1 1 The following claims to be paid from Relief Highway Fund were presented for payment: t Chas. E. Banker_, City Clerk, Cash paid out for labor 0168.00 Leidigh & Havens Lumber Co. Lumber & Cement 167.50 Utt Lumber Coal Yard Lumber & Cement 72.15 Putnam Sand a Building Co., Sand 57o,62 f445.27 Commissioner Surface moved that claims be approved by the Board of Commissioners. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introduced entitled: "An ordinance making an appropriation from the Relief Highway Fund for the payment of certain claims." On motion of Commissioner Surface the ordinance was read and adopted by sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Jackson, Mitchell and Surface (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Pafford absent. Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered 4541, j I ' A resolution was introduced entitled: "A Resolution employ- ! ing John T. Hoyne, Assistant City Engineer in the office of the County Poor Commissioner and prescribing his compensation." On motion of Commissioner Surface the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Peters, Mitohell, Jackson and Surface (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Pafford absent. Acting Mayor approved the reso- lution and it is numbered 623. The above resolution is recorded in full on Pages 311 and 312 Resolution IDok Number 2. i City Engineer submitted Final Estimate of Cost for the con- struction of Storm Sewer No, 17-B. On motion of Commissioner Surface same was approved by the Board of Commissioners. A communication was received from the County Treasurer asking for permission to compromise the taxes I on Lots 1 and 3 Block 11 Morrison's Addition to the City of Salina, Kansas. Commissi Surface moved that request be granted. Motion adopted. I Application for license to sell malt and cereal beverages in the City of Salina received from: Edd Appleton, d/b/a Green Checker, 154 North Santa Fe Avenue. Commissioner Surface moved that application be approved by the Board of Commissioners. i Commissioner Surface moved that the Malt and Cereal Beverage i s license issued to D. B. Smith, be transferred from 109 West Ash Street to 121 East Walnut Street. Motion adopted. 4 I Commissioner Surface moved that Taxicab Drivers license issued to Rog E. Fowler be revoked. Motion adopted. 1 1 i 1 1 Commissioner Surface moved that Sign Application No. 139 filed by Kenney Shoe Store, for the erection of a wall sign on the front of the building at 115 North Santa Fe Avenue be approved by the Board of Commissioners subject to the following conditions, and that a permit be issued for the erection of the sign as applied for, Provided, that such permit may be revoked at the pleasure of the Board of Commissioners, the sign to be removed by the applicants or its successors upon such revocation, and that the erection of such sign by the applicant shall constitute its acceptance of such condi- tions. Motion adopted. City Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for Refresh- ment Privilege in Oakdale Park during the Swimming Pool season of 1935. Bids to be received up to and including Monday, May 27th, 1935 at 5:00 P. M. The following communication was received from the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway Company, relating to the acceptance of Ordinance Number 4506 of the City of Salina, passed January 29, 1935: CERTIFICATE OF ACCEPTANCE Frank 0. Lowden, James E. Gorman and Joseph B. Fleming, Trustees of the Estate of The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, as trustees and not individually, do hereby accept and approve Ordinance Number 4506 of the City of Salina, Kansas, which was duly passed on January 29, 1935, by the Board of Commissioners of said city and which was duly published in The Salina Journal, the official city paper of said city, on Febru- ary 2, 1935, and all of the conditions and pro- visions of said Ordinance, this certificate of acceptance and approval to be filed in the office of the City Clerk of said city and published in the official city paper of said city in accord- ance with the provisions of Section 4 of said Ordinance. IN WITNESS WHEREOF the said Trustees have authorized these presents to be executed in their names and on their behalf by a majority of said Trustees, this 15th day of May 1935. City Manager reported favorably on petition asking for the location of a street light at Beloit Avenue and Highland Circle. City Manager Brown reported that the following bids were received for the construction of an additional well at the pumping station: Well Works Mfg. Company $3444.00 Air -Made Well Company 3382.00 Kelley Well Company 3198.00 Layne -Western Company 2870.00 Commissioner Surface moved that City Manager be authorized to let contract to Layne -Western Company as per their bid submitted. Motion adopted. On motion of Commissioner Surface the Board of Commissioners adjourned. City Clerk
