The minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 18th, 1953 and Board of Zoning
Appeals meeting of May 18th, 1953 were read and approved as read.
Pursuant to Notice published in the official. City paper, bids were re-
ceived for the curbing, guttering and paving of Crawford Avenue from the west line
of the Union Pacific Railroad Right-of-way to the east line of Roach Street, extend-
ing north and south (known as Job 305), as follows:
Brown and Brown, Inc. $52,793.00
L. W. Rexroad 582438.60
San Ore Construction Company 57,660.00
Broce and Smith Construction Company 59,556.80
City Engineer's Estimate 55,076.65
Commissioner Cobb moved that contract be awarded to Brown and Brown, Inc.,
as per bid submitted in the amount of $52,793.00, and that checks be returned to un-
successful bidders. Carried.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance
ratifying and confirming a contract with Brown L Brown, Inc., for the construction
of certain curbing, guttering, --paving and grading improvements on a certain street
in the City of Galina, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the
cost thereof pending the issuance and sale of bonds." Ordinance was referred to
the Board of Commissioners.
Mayor appointed J. Earl Wyatt, C. B. Dodge, Jr., and Harley Rose as apprais-
ers for the curbing, guttering and paving of Crawford Avenue from the Union Pacific
Railroad Right-of-way to the east line of Roach Street, extended north and south.
Commissioner Cobb moved that appointments be confirmed by the Board of Commissioners.
Carried.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
providing for and establishing the rates tote charged consumers of water sold by
the Water Works Department of the City of Salina and amending Section 1 of Ordinance
Number 5679 and providing for the repeal of said Section 1."
On motion of Commissioner Cunningham the ordinance was read and adopted by
sections and on its finalEdoption the roll was called and the following vote was had;
Ayes: Barcafer, Cobb, Cunningham and Lake (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Wenger
absent. Mayor approved the ordinance and it is Numbered 5782.
A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the curbing, guttering and grading of Third Street from the north line of
Harsh Avenue to the south line of Hamilton Avenue."
On motion of Commissioner Cobb the resolution was adopted as read and on
its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Barcafer,
Cobb, Cunningham and Lake (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Wenger absent. Mayor
approved the resolution and it is Numbered 1402.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 143, Resolution Book
Number 5.
A resolution was introduced and passed entitled: "A Resolution determining
the necessity of and directing that the owner or owners of certain lots and pieces
of land construct, in compliance with plans and specifications on file in the office
of the City Engineer and on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Salina,
Kansas, a sidewalk abutting said lots within thirty days of the adoption and publicati
hereof and providing that in the event the owner or owners fail to do so, that the
City of Salina shall proceed to construct or cause to be constructed said sidewalk
and that bonds of said City shall be issued to pay the cost of said work and that the
entire cost of the sidewalk abutting each of said lots and pieces of ground, shall be
assessed against such lot, lots or pieces of ground, as provided by law."
On motion of Commissioner Lake the resolution was adopted as read and on
its finaladoption the roll was called and the following vote was lad; Ayes: Barcafer,
Cobb, Cunningham and Lake (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Wenger absent. Mayor ap-
proved the resolution and it is Numbered 1403.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Pages 144 and 145, Book 5.
Petition presented from Taxis, inc. fort he transfer of Taxicab License
:Dumber 41 to Bertha and Roy Cheeves. Commissioner Cunningham moved to
approve. Carried.
Petition presented for the paving of College 'venue from Prescott tivenue to
Morrison Avenue. Referred to City Manager.
Pet -tion presented from Harry Banker for the rezoning of ten acres (Harry
Banker) at the Southwest corner of Crawford Avenue and U. S. 81 By -Pass, to
District "D" Local Business. Referred to City Planning Commission.
Application for Cereal Malt Beverage License presented from Carl Garrett,
d/b/a "Hurry Sack Inn" 153 South Fifth Street. Approved by Commissioner Cunning-
ham. Carried.
Kirk VanCleef asked permission to display fireworks in Kerwood Park, for
fifteen minutes, June 30th or July 1st, 1953. Commissioner Cunningham
moved to approve subject to regulation by City Manager. Carried.
The matter of pick-up stations for Airmen on South Nintth was discussed by
the Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Cobb moved to approve subject to
final approval of City Manager. Carried.
City Maager reported on petition for street lights on Bishop Street
between Eleventh and Thirteenth Streets. Commissioner Lake moved to
approve. Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Lake the Board of Commissioners adjourned.

MAY 25, 1953
Meeting of Board of Zoning Appeals, Lay 25, 1953. tvieeting was called
to order by mayor Barcafer, the roll was called and Commissioners Barcafer, Cobb,
Cunningham and Lake and City Attorney Clark responded. Commissioner Wenger
absent.
Meeting was held for the purpose of acting on Building Permit Application
Number 4656 for Wm. Yi. Jones, 1147 North Eighth Street, for addition to house located
at 147 North Eighth S�reet, to be used for an apartment.
There being no protests, Commissioner Cobb moved that Building Permit be
approved. Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Cobb meeting adjourned.
