SEPTEMBER 4, 1956
Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners September 4, 1956. Meeting
was called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes,
Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 28, 1956 were read and approved
as read.
Bids received for Fire Station Number 2.
Commissioner Lake moved that bids be referred to Anderson, Srack, Johnson
and McClung, Architects, to check, and contracts tobe awarded at next meeting. Carried.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
relating to and apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and
pieces of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of paving and grading
of Brown Street , twenty-eight (28) feet wide toe of gutter to toe of gutter with two (2)
inch hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, from the east line of Sherman
Street tothe west line of Eleventh Street; paving and grading of Claflin Avenue thirty- j
six (36) feet wide from toe of gutter t o t oe of gutter, with two (2) inch hot asphalt mixt
over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, from the west line of Lewis Avenue to the west line'
of Ohio Street; paving and grading of Lewis Avenue twenty-eight (28) feet wide from toe
of gutter to toe of gutter with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed
rock base; from the south line of Kirwin Avenue to the north line of Claflin Avenue; paving
and grading of Lewis Avenue twenty-eight (28) feet wide toe of gutter to toe of gutter,
with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, from the north
line of Repu lie Avenue to the south line of Martin Avenue; paving and grading of Martin
Avenue twenty-eight (28) feet wide from toe of gutter to toe of gutter, with two (2) inch]
hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, from the east line of Roach Street
to the east line of Pearl Avenue; paving andding of Martin Avenue with two (2) inch

providing for the collection and payment of such assessments.
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the ordinance was read and adopted by sec-
tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had;
Ayes: Hawkes, Ex1i ne, Lake, Ramseyand Vi
ordinance and it is Numbered 6089.enger (5) Nays: l0) Mayor approved the
No persons appeared to protest against the rezoning of Lot 8, Block 13, River-
side Park Addition from Zone "A" to Zone "B".
Commissioner Exline moved that ordinance be introduced for .first reading.

of Kansas Wesleyan University.
Commissioner Ramsey moved to publish notice for Hearing September 113 1956.
Zoning Board of Appeals.
Application for sidewalk next to curb at 517 West Republic Avenue. Paul
D. Merrill.
Commissioner Lake made motion that Ordinance be amended to allow this 130
feet of sidewalk at the curb. Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the board of Commissioners adjourned.
