Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners June 5, 1956. Meeting was
called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline,
Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 29, 1956 were read and approved
as read.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
relating to an apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and
pieces of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of curbing, gutter-
ing grading Crawford Avenue from the center line of Whittinghill Avenue to the
center line of Viemont Avenue; Crawford Avenue, on the north side, from the center
line of Steahlin Avenue to the center line of Whittinghill Avenue; Claflin Avenue
on the north side, from the center line of Lewis to the center line of OhioStreet;
Duvall Avenue from the center line of `%rawford Avenue to the center line of Haven
A enue; Lewis Avenue from the center line of Jewell Avenue to the center line of
Orwin Avenue; Mohawk Avenue from the center line of Franklin Avenue to the north

line of Lot 23, Block 6j, Sunset Manor Addition, extended West; Shawnee Avenue
from the center line of Franklin Avenue to the north line of Lot 7, Block 2, Sunset
Manor Addition, extended West; Seminole Avenue from the center line of Franklin
Avenue to the north line of -Lot 13, Block 4., Sunset Manor Addition, extended West;
and relating to and providing for the collection and payment of such assessments."
On motion of Commissioner Exline the ordinance was read and adopted by
sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was
had; Ayes: Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved
the ordinance and it is Numbered 6063.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
providing for the construction of a certain storm sewer and drainage in the City
of Salina, Kansas to be designated as South View Addition Storm Sewer, and providing
for the letting of contract for such construction and for the payment of the cost
thereof."
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the ordinance was read and adopted by sec-
tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had;

ordinance and it is Numbered 6061.
A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the paving and grading of Oakdale 13ri.ve , thirty-two (32) feet wide,
from t oe of gutter to toe of gutter, with concrete, from the east line of Front
Street to the west line of Oakdale Avenue.'$
On motion of Commissioner Lake the resolution was adopted as read and on
its final adoption the roll

relating to the
paving and grading of Ninth Street on each side of the existing
concrete slab, Sixteen (16) feet
wide to the toe of existing gutter, with concrete,
from the south line of Cloud Street to the south line of Charlotte
Avenue."
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and on

Letter presented from Citjr Planning Commission recommending that Petition
Number 1768 Bled by L. R. Taylor for the rezoning of L is 38and 39 on Front Street,
in Original Town of Salina, from Zone "B" to Zone "F" bg approved.
Commissioner Lake moved to accept and City Clerk give thirty days notice.

Engineer filed Plans and Specifications for the construction of Lateral
Sanitary Sewer Number 348.
Commissioner Exline moved to accept and instruct City Clerk to advertise
for bids on Lateral Sanitary Sewers Numbered 346, 347 and 348, for June 12th, 1956,
at 4:00 P. M. Carried.
Wilson and Company, Engineers, submitted the following estimates:
Number 5 in the amount of $18,939.26 to Jarvis Construction Company for
Water `treatment Plant.
Approved by Commissioner Lake. Carried.

Estimate in the amount of :20,447.23 to PUrtzer and Dutton for Underground
Reservoir.

The following petitions were presented and referred to the City Manager:
For sidewalks in South-east Salina.
Paving Ellsworth Avenue from Quincy *est to existing paving.
Paving Haven from Viemont to Whittinghill.
Petition presented asking for the rezoning of Lots 4, 53 6, 7, 8 and 9
of Block 8, in Replat of Lots 1 - 15, Garden Home Addition to the City of Salina,
Kansas, from Zone "A" to Zone "C". Petition referred to City Planning Com-
mission.
Appraisers Reports filed for Job 339 and Job 343.
Commissioner Wenger moved to set date of Hearing for June 19th, 1956 at
4:30 o'clock P. M. Carried.
City Attorney instructed to prepare Ordinance and Notice for $375,000.00
Airport Bond Election, to be held at the Primary Election in August 1956.
City Limit matter tabled for two weeks.
Mayor submitted the following appointments for various City Boards:
Band Trustee: Wm. Yost for a term of three years from January 1, 1956.
City Planning Commission: Robert Flory, G. N. Waddell and James McKim.,for a term of three years from May 1, 1956.
Memorial Hall Board: C. W. Lamer II, for a term of three years from
_ April 1, 1956.
Plumbers Examining Board: Dan G. Kastner, Marvin J. Fink and Carl D. Johnson,
for a term ending May 1, 1957• j

relating to and apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and
pieces of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of paving and grading
with two (2) inch hot mix asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, twenty
eight (28) feet wide from toe of gutter to toe of gutter, ELlsworth Avenue from the
east side of Roach Street to the west side of Lewis Avenue; paving and grading with
two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base, Illinois Street
from the east line of Merrill Street to the west line of Sheridan Street; paving and
grading with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over a six (6) inch crushed rock base,
Lewis Street from the south line of Jewell Avenue to the north line of Kirwin Avenue;
paving and grading with two (2) inch hot mix asphalt over a six ,6) inch crushed
rock base, twenty-eight (28) feet wide toe of gutter to toe of gutter, Phillips Street

ing to and apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and pieces of
ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of construction of lateral
sanitary sewers in Lateral Sanitary Sewer Districts Numbered 343, 344 and 315, and
relating to and providing for collection and payment of such assessments." Ordinance
was referred to the Board of Commissioners.

Meeting of Board of Zoning Appeals, June 5, 1956. Meeting was called to
order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline, Lake,
Ramsey and biienger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The following applications for Building Permit were presented:
A. A. Riker for permit to add to Locker Plant , located on Lot 66, on Ninth
Street, in Grounds of Kansas Wesleyan University Addition to Salina, Kansas.
Lon Wilson for permit to erect a building on Lots 6, 7, 8, block 1, Chicago
Addition; and Lots 11 and 13 in Block 2, Chicago Addition, and part of vacated Clark
Street.
Commissioner Exline moved to advertise for Hearing, June 12th, 1956 at 1:00
P. M. Carried.
