APRIL 17, 1956
Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners April 17, 1956. Meeting
was called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes,
Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 10th, 1956 and Meeting of
Board of Zoning Appeals of April 10th, 1956 were read and approved as read.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
providing for the regulating, equipping and operation of boats and prohibiting
swimming in the Smoky Hill River within the City limits of Salina, Kansas, and
providing penalties for the violation thereof."
On motion of Commissioner Exline the ordinance was read and adopted by
sections and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was
had; Ayes: Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor ap-
proved the ordinance and it is Numbered 6052.
A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the paving and grading of Cloud Street twenty-eight (28) feet wide
from toe of gutter to toe of gutter with concrete, from the east line of Ninth
Street to the east line of Highland Avenue."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the resolution was adopted as read and
on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the
resolution and it is Numbered 1680.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 80 Resolution Book 6.
A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the paving and grading of Ninth Street Place twenty-one (21) feet
wide toe of gutter to toe of gutter with concrete from the north line of Leslie
Street to the south line of Charlotte Street."
On motion of Commissioner Lake the resolution was adopted as read and on
its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the
resolution and it is Numbered 1681.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 81 Resolution Hook 6.
A resolutio& was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution
relating to the curbing, guttering and grading of the West Side of Ninth Street
Place from the center line of Leslie Street to the center line of Charlotte
Street."
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and
on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the
resolution and it is Numbered 1682.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 82 Resolution Book 6.
A resolution was introduced and passed entitled: "A Resolution finding
that it is necessary to condemn an easement in certain property for the purpose of
constructing, extendin , installing and maintaining a certain Storm Sewer from the
intersection of the certain line of Wayne Avenue and Ohio Street, north to the bank
of the Smoky Hill River, and directing the City Engineer to file a survey and
description of the land so required."
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and on
its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hawkes,
Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and
it is Numbered 1683.

appropriation for the payment of certain claims."
On motion of Commissioner Lake the ordinance was read and adoped by sec-
tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was
had; Ayes: Hawkes, Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor
approved the ordinance and it is Numbered A-799.

for Auxiliary Waterworks Equipment as follows:

Commissioner Wenger moved to accept bids of Columbia Steel Tank Company;
Walker Process Equipment and Omega Machine Company. Carried.
• Y Pursuant to notice published in the official City paper bids were received
for the curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets, provided for in Engineer
Job 340, as follows:
Brown & Brown, Inc. $88,208.00
H.J.Taylor Construction Company $782841.50
Engineer's Estimate $84,525.00
Commissioner Lake moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Construc-
tion Company as per bid submitted in the sum of $78,841.50 and check returned to
unsuccessful bidder. Carried.
�+ An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance rati-
fying and confirming a contract with the H. J. Taylor Construction Company for the
construction of certain curbing, guttering and grading improvements on certain
streets in the City of Salina, Kansas, and providing for the issuance of temporary
notes to pay the cost thereof pedning the issuance and sale of bonds." Ordinance
was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance rati-
fying and confirmin a contract with the &,: J. "Ttylor Cons truction Company for the
construction of certain curbing.* guttering, paving and grading improvements on
certain streets in the City of Jalina, Kansas., and providing for the issuance of
temporary notes to pay the cost thereof pDending the issuance and sale of bonds."
Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
Mayor appointed J. Earl Wyatt, Wm. F. Grosser, Jr. and Robert G. Grederick
as appraisers for the curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets provided for
in Engineer Job 340.
Appointments confirmed by Commissioner Exline. Carried.
Pursuant to notice published in the official City paper bids were received
for the paving of certain streets provided for Engineer Job 343 as follows:

Broce and Smith $1073912.50
George M. Myers $111,330.00.
Brown & Brown, Inc. $ 97,360.00
Engineer's Estimate $104,870.00

Commissioner/moved that contract be awarded to Brown & Brown, Inc., as per
bid submitted in the sum of $97,360.00; and checks returned to unsuccessful bidders.
Carried.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance rati-
fying and confirming a contract with Brown & Brown, Inc. for the construction of
certain paving and grading improvements on certain streets in the City of Salina,
Kansas, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the cost thereof
pending the issuance and sale of bonds." Ordinance was referred to the
Board of Commissioners.
Mayor appointed J. marl Wyatt, C. b. Dodge, Jr. and Harley Rose, as apprais-
ers for the paving of certain streets provided for in Engineer Job 343.

Special Meeting of the Board of Commissiom rs April 17, 1956. Meeting
was called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes,
Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
Meeting was held to act on the following Appraisers Reports:
Job 337 Lateral Sewers 327 and 328
Job 331 Curbing, guttering and Paving.
Job 335 Curbing and Guttering
Job 336 Paving
No protests.
Commissioner Wenger moved that Appraisers Reports be accepted as read.
Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Exline the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
