AUGUST 16, 1955 Regular Meeting of the Board of Commi.ssiore rs August 16, 1955• Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline, Ramsey and Wenger and Assistant City Attorney Lillard responded. Commissioner Lake and City Attorney Clark absent. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 9th, 1955 were read and approved as read. Pursuant to Notice published in the Salina Journal bids were received for Engineer Job 331 (Street Improvements) as follows: i Brown & Brown, Inc., Salina, Kansas $73,985.00 George Me Myers, Inc., Eldorado, Kansas $80,731.80 Rhoades Construction Company, Newton, Kansas $77,792.40 • City Engineer's Estimate $82,314.00 Commissioner Ramsey moved that contract be awarded to Brown & Brown, Inc., as per bid submitted in the amount of $73,985.00, and checks returned to unsuccess- ful bidders. Carried. An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance rati- fying and confirming a contract with Brown & Brown, Inc. for the construction of certain curb, gutter, paving and gra ing,improvements on certain streets in the City of Salina, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the cost thereof pending the issuance and sale of bonds." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners. Acting Mayor appointed J. Earl Wyatt, C. B. Dodge, Jr., and Harley Rose to as as appraisers for Engineer Job Number 331 (Street Improvement). Approved by Com- missioner Wenger. Carried. A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "AResolution re- lating to the curbing, guttering, paving and grading of Armory Road,Dorty-one (41) feet wide back of curb to back of curb, with concrete, from the edge of present pavement on Broadway Boulevard to a line 100 feet west of the west line of Missouri Pacific Railroad right -of -war r On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was cal led and the following vote was had; Hawkes Exline, Ramsey and Wenger (�) Nays: mss' , Mayor approved the resolution and it is Numbered 11592 over Lake absent. Acting The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 395 Resolution Book 5. A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution re- lating to the paving and graing of Phillips street with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over six (6) inch crushed rock base, twenty-eight 28) feet wide, toe of gutter to toe of gutter, from the north line of Crawford Avenue to the south line of Charles Street." On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hawkes, Euline, Ramsey and Wenger (4) Nays: (0) Commissioner Lake absent. Acting Mayor Hawkes approved the resolution and it is Numbered 1593• The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 396 Resolution Book 5. An Ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance making a levy of taxes for general revenue and other purposes by the City of Salina, Kansas for the year 1956." On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the ordinance was read and adopted by sec- tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hawkes, Exline, Ramsey and Wenger (4) Nays: Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is Number59s5. City Manager reported on Petition Number 1634 for a sanitary sewer to serve Lots 1 to 11, Block 4, Golden Belt Subdivision, City of Salina, Kansas Ordinance introduced for first reading to include north block. - • i F An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled. "An ordinance relating to and apportioning and levying special assessments on certain lots and pieces of ground in the City of Salina, Kansas, to pay the cost of curbing, gutter- ing and paving Eleventh Street with concrete, thirty-six (36) feet from face of curb to face of curb from the north line of Grand Avenue to the south line of Broadway Boulevard; of curbing, guttering, paving and graing Pearl Street with concrete, twenty-eight (28) feet toe of gutter to toe of gutter from the north line of Martin Avenue tothe south line of McAdams Road; of paving and grading Re ualic Avenue from the east line of tie Missouri Pacific Right-of-way to the center 'ne of Broadway Boulevard; of paving and gra ing Roach Street with concrete twenty-eight (28) feet — toe of gutter to toe of gutter from the north line of Ellsworth Avenue to the south line of Kirid.n Avenue; of paving Wood Avenue with concrete from the south line of Crawford Avenue to the north line of Bond venue; and relating to and providing for the collection and payment of such assessments." Acting Mayor approved the ordinance and it is Numbered A-766. r Application was presented from Mrs. A. R. Wilson, for the construction of a driveway, 10 x172, at 436 North Broadway. Approved by Commissioner Wenger. Carried. Trust Deed, with a deposit of $75.00 was presented from Mrs. 0. L. Drake, for perpetual care of the North 1/2 of Lot 45, HLock 10, Gypsum Hill Cemetery, in the City of Salina, Kansas. Approved by Commissioner Ramsey. Carried. u A petition was presented for the rezoning from "D" to "F" , the North 125 feet of South 393 feet of that part of Block 1 in Eisenhower Addition to the City of Salina, Kansas; and the North 125 feet of South 268 feet of that part of Block 1, in Eisenhower Addition. Petition referred to the City Planning Commission. i Appraisers Reports filed for Job 328 (Lateral Sanitary Sewers Numbered 315 to 318) Commissioner Wenger moved to set date for hearing, August 30th, 1955 at four o'clock P. AUGUST 16, 1955 Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners August 16, 1955. Meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline, Ramsey and tenger and Assistant City Attorney Lillard responded. Commissioner Lake and City Attorney Clark absent. Meeting was held for the purpose of acting on Appraisers Reports for Job Number 324, (Curb, Gutter and Paving Improvements). No protests. Commissioner Exline moved that Appraisers Reports be adopted as read. Carried. On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the Board of Commissioners adjourned. L City Clerk ~��
