SEPTEMBER 281t 1953 Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners September 28, 1953• Meeting was called to order by hayor Barcafer, the roll was called and Commissioners Barcafer, Cobb, Cunningham, Lake and Wenger and City Attorney Clark responded. The minutes of the Regular Meeting of September 21, 1953 were read and ap- proved as read. Pursuant to notice published in the official City paper, bids were received 'i for the curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets provided for in Ordinance Number 5807 (Engineer Job No. 315) as follows: Shears & Sons, Hutchinson, Kansas $831l44.50 L. W. Rexroad & Son, Salina, Kansas p2o,909.4o H. J. Taylor Construction Company, Salina, Ks. $79,979.00 City Engineer's Estimate Commissioner Wenger moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Con- struction Company as per bid submitted in the sum of $79,979.00, and that checks be returned to unsuccessful bidders. Motion adopted. An ordinance was introdu.:ed for first reading entitled: "An ordinance ratifying and confirming a contract with the H. J. Taylor Construction Company, for the construction of certain curU ng, guttering, paving and grading improvements on certain streets in the City of Salina, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the cost thereof pending the issuance and sale of bonds." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners. Mayor appointed J. Earl Wyatt, Harley Rose and C. B. Dodge, Jr. as appraisers for curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets provided for in Ordinance Number 5807 (Engineer Job 315). Approved by Commissioner Wenger. City Manager reported on the following petitions: 1407 Paving Washington Street from Twelfth to Phillips. 1109 Curb and gutter Fifth Street from harsh to Hamilton. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relat- ing to the paving of Washington Street from the west lire of Twelfth Street to the east line of Phillips Street." Referred to the Board of Commissioners. A resolution was introduced for first reading entitled: "A resolution relat- ing to the curbing, guttering and grading of Fifth Street from center line of Harsh Avenue to center line of Hamilton Avenue." Referred to the Board of Commissioners. An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance :ro- viding for the amendment of Zoning Ordinance Number 5519 and the Zoning District Map therein and thereby adopted and providing for the rezoning of certain property within the City and prescribing the proper uses thereof, and further providing for the repeal of Ordinance Number 5779." On motion of Commissioner Wenger the ordinance was read and adopted by sec- tions and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Barcafer, Cobb, Cunningham, Lake and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance and it is Numbered 5808. The following petitions were presented and referred to the City Manager: For sidewalk on east side of Lot 2, Block 1, Replat of Beebe's Second Addition. Paving Sunrise Drive from Repu lie Avenue to Morningside Drive. Trust Deed, with a deposit of $75.00 was presented from Earl W. Briggs, Fern W. Pyle and Cora W. Briggs, for perpetual care of North 1/2 of Lot 48, Block 5, in the Gypsum Hill Cemetery of Salina, Kansas. Approved by Commissioner Wenger. Carried. Application for 1jereal Malt Beverage License presented from Henrietta M. Eyster, d/b/a "Dixie Camp" 805 West North Street. Approved by Commissioner Cunning- ham. Carried. The matter of fluoridation of water was taken up by the Board of Commission- ers. Room in building for it to be installed later. No decision at this time. Commissioner Wenger made motion that all taxicabs in the City of Salina be equipped with meters after January 1, 1951. Carried. On motion of Commissioner Wenger the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
