Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners August 31, 1953. Meeting was
G! called to order by Mayor Barcafer, the roll was called and Commissioners Barcafer,
Cobb, Cunningham, Lake and 6enger and City* Attorney Clark responded.
The minutes of the Regular ivieeting of August 24, 1953 were ead and approved
as read.
Pursuant to notice published in the Salina Journal bid was received for the
construction of Lateral Sanitary Sewer Numoer 297 (Job 309) as follows:
H. J. Taylor Construction Company $2181.00
City Engineer's Estimate $2333.00
Commissioner Lake moved that contract be awarded to H. J. Taylor Construction
Company as per bid submitted in the amount of $2181.00. Motion adopted.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance
ratifying and confirming a contract with H. J. Taylor Construction Company for the
construction of certain lateral sanitary sewer in the City of Salina, Kansas,
hereinafter designated as Lateral Sanitary Sewer District Number 297, and providing
for the issuance of temporary notes to pay the cost thereof, pending issuance and
sale of bonds." Ordinance was referred to the Board of Commissioners.
Mayor appointed J. Earl Vuyatt, Earley Roseand C. B. Dodge, Jr. to act as
appraisers in ascertaining the valuation of certain lots and pieces of ground liable
to special assessment for the cost of constructing Lateral Sanitary Sewer Number 297.
Appointments approved by Commissioner Lake. Carried.

An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance
providing for the amendment of Zoning Ordinance Number 5549 and the Zoning District
L;a.p thereto and thereby adopted and prescribing the proper uses thereof.$'
On motion of Commissioner Lake the ordinance was read and adopted by sections
and on its finaladoption the roll was cal led a nd the following vote was had; Ayes:
Barcafer, Cobb, Cunningham, Lake and 6 enger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the
ordinance and it is Numbered 5804.
City Engineer filed Final Estimate �n the amount of 0852.09 to H. J. Taylor
Construction Company for the construction of Lateral Sanitary Sewer Number 293•
Approved by Commissioner Cobb. Carried.
A resolution was introduced and read entitled: "A Resolution authorizing
and providing for the issuance of Temporary Note of the City of Salina, Kansas,
in the sum of $3,852.09 to pay a portion of the cost of certain sewer improve-
ments in the City of baling to be designated as ST -19, pending the issuance of bonds
to pay the cost of said work."
On motion of Commissioner Cobb the resolution was adopted as read and on its
final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Barcafer,
Cobb, Cunningham, Lake and Vienger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution
and it is Numbered 1424.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Pages Numbered 186, 187 and 188,
Resolution Book Number 5.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance relat-
ing to and apportioning and levying special assessments in the City of 6 4ina, Kansas
on certain lots and pieces of ground to pay the cost of construction of Lateral Sani-
tary Sewer in Lateral Sanitary Sewer District Number 293 and relating to and provid-
ing for the collection and payment of such assessments." Ordinance was referred
to the Board of Commissioners.
City Engineer filed P.-xtial Estimate Number 2 in the amount of :2311.25 to
Joe E. Willett, Commercial Builders, for the erection of iublic Rest Rooms on
Parking Lot, North Fifth Street (Job Number 308). Approved by Commissioner
Cobb. Carried.
City Engineer filed Partial. Estimate in the amount of $3170.90 to Wilson and
Noyes Construction Company, for Well Houses Number 11 and 12, (Job Number 304-A).
Approved by Commissioner Cunningham. Carried.
City Engineer filed Final Estimate in the amount of $10, 657.04 to Brown &
Brown, Inc. for paving Parking Lot on North Fifth Street, (Job 307). Approved by
Commissioner Wenger. Carried.

City Engineer filed Final Estimate in the amount of $13,108.77 to Layne-
Niestern Company for two gravel pack wells, Numbered 11 and 12. Approved by Commis-
sioner Cobb. Carried.
Mausoleum Deed was presented for the sale of Crypt Number 160 in Hillcrest
Memorial i,ausoleum to ;uiaurine Hucksoll. Approved by Commissioner Cunningham. Carried.
An ordinance was introduced for first reading entitled: "An ordinance provid-
ing for the paving of Eighth Street from the north line of Grand Avenue to the south
line of Woodland Avenue; for the paving and grading of College hvenue from the south
line of Prescott hvenue to the north line of &Sorrison Avenue; for the paving and grad-
ing of Ellsworth Street from the west line of Highland Circle to the east line of
Pershin- Street; for the paving and grading of Phillips Street from the north line
of Prescott Avenue to the south line of Charles Street; for the paving and grading of
Roach Street from the north line of �ckdams Road south to the south line of Martin
Avenue; for the paving and grading of Wilson Street from the west line of Kerrison
Road to the east line of Sunrise Drive; for the paving and grading of Wilson Street
from the east line of Roach Street t o t he west line of Sunrise Drive; for the curbing,
Guttering, paving and grading of Roach street from the south line of Ldnneapolis Aven-
ue to the north line of Beloit street; and for the curbing, guttering and grading of
Third Street from the north line of Harsh -"venue to tie south line of Hamilton Avenue,
and providing for the payment of the cost thereof, how the same shall be assessed and
the manner of payment of the cost thereof." Ordinance was referred to the Board
of Commissioners.
Commissioner Cobb moved that ',,elcome Sign, at Twelfth and Bishop Streets,
be given to Camp Webster. City Manager to work out detail for taking the sign down.
Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the Board of Commissioners adjourned.
