Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners July 23, 1957• Meeting was
called to order by Mayor Exline, tie roll was called and Commissioners Lxline, Jaeger,
McCune, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of July 16th, 1957 and Board of Zoning
Appeals Meeting of July 23, 1957, were read and approved as read.
Report from City Engineer on Job 361, bids received July 16th, 1957.
Commissioner Jaeger moved that contract be awarde to Brown and Brown, Inc.,
as per bid submitted in the amount of $96,637.50, and checks returned to unsuccessful
bidders. Carried.

Mayor appointed J. Earl Wyatt, Wm. F. �4rosser, Jr., and Robert Frederick, to
act as appraisers for Engineer Job 361.
Approved by Commissioner Wenger. Carried.
A resolution was introduced for secondieading entitled: "A Resolution determin
ing necessity of and directing that the owner or owners of certain lots construct in
compliance with plans and specifications of the City Engineer, a sidewalk, abutting said
lots within 30 days of the adoption and publication hereof and providing that in the
event the owner or owners fail to do so, that the City of Jalina shall proceed to constru
or cause to be constructed said sidewalk and that the total cost thereof shall be assesse
against such lot or lots on which such sidewalk shall abut as other special assessments."
On motion of Commissioner McCune the resolution as adopted as read and on its
final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Exline, Jaeger
McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and it is

A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A hesolution relat-
ing to the paving and grading of Windsor Drive with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over
a six. (6) inch crushed rock base, from the south line of Republic Avenue to the west
line of Dover Drive."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the resolution was adopted as read and on its
final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Exline, Jaeger
McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and it is
Numbered 1863. •

A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution relat-
ing to the curbing, guttering and grading of the east side of Lewis Avenue_, from the
north line of Beloit Avenue to the north line of Minneapolis Avenue."
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the resolution was adopted as read and on its
final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: kxline, Jaeger
McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approvedthe resolution and it is
Numbered 1864.

A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A Resolution relat-
ing to the paving and grading of Second Street with two (2) inch hot asphalt mix over

final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Exline,Jaeger,

A resolution was introduced for second reading entitled: "A resolution relat- •
ing to the curbing, guttering, paving and gracing of Second Street with concrete from
the south line of Crawford Avenue to the north ;ine of Bond reet."

On motion of Commissioner McCune the resolution was adopted as read and on
its final adoption the roll was called and.the following vote was had; Ayes: Exline,
Jaeger, McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and
it is Numbered 1866.

An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance provid-
ing for the amendment of Zoning Ordinance 5519 and the Zoning District Map therein and
thereby adopted; and providing for the rezoning of certain property within the City and
prescribing the proper uses thereof."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the ordinance was read and adopted by sections
and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Exline, Jaeger, McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance
and it is Numbered 6163.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance creat-
ing and defining a certain lateral sanitary sewer district in the City of Salina, Kansas,
designated as Lateral 6anitary Sewer District Number 363 and providing for t e construc-
tion of a lateral sanitary sewer insaid Lateral Sanitary Sewer District Number 363, so
created and providing for the payment of the cost thereof and for the levying of special
assessments against the property in said district for the payment of the cost of such
construction and for the issuing of bonds to pay the cost thereof."
On motion of Commissioner McCune the ordinance was read and adopted by sections
and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Exline, Jaeger, McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance

An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance rati-
fying and confirming a contra t with the Brown and .6rown Construction Company for the
construction of certain curbing, guttering, paving and grading improvements on certain
streets in the City of Salina, Kansas, and providing for the issuance of temporary notes
to pay t e cost thereof pending t e issuance and sale of bonds."
On motion of Commissioner Ramsey the ordinance was read and adopted by sections
and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Exline, Jaeger, McCune Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nayes: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance
and it is Numbered 6165.
An ordinance was introduced for second reading entitled: "An ordinance provid-
ing for the regulation and operation of boats, and prohibiting water skiing on the Smoky
Hill River within the City Limits of 'jalina, Kansas:, and amending Ordinance Number 6052."
On motion of Commissioner McCune the ordinance was read and adopted by sections
and on its final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes:
Exlire, Jaeger, McCune, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the ordinance
and it is Numbered 6166.

Budget for the year 1958 was taken up by the Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Wenger moved to accept and City Clerk be instructed to publish
Notice for Hearing tote held, Friday, August 9th, 1957 at four o'clock P. M. Carried.
Lette r presented from Safeway Stores, asking for forty-five (45) degree angle
parking in front of their store No. 229, located at 448 South Santa F'e Avenue, Salina,
Kansas.
Commissioner Jaeger moved to approve for installation according to ordinance.
Carried.
Petition presented regarding curb sidewalk on Lots 1, 3, 4, 5, 61 Block 2, South-
ern View Addition, Salina, Kansas.
Commissioner Ramsey moved that ordinance be introduced for/first reading.

Petition presented for the closing of alley between Eleventh and Twelfth Streets,
first south of Iron Avenue.
Commissioner Wenger moved to refer to City Manager.
Proclamation presented relating to Creation of Salina -Saline County Defense
Council.

Commissioner McCune moved that ordinance be introduced for first reading provid-
ing forthe construction of Lateral Sanitary ''ewer Number 364.
