COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS, REGULAR MEETING

MARCH 26, 1957
Regular Meet ing of the Board of Commissioners March 26, 1957. Meeting was
called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline,
Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The minutes of the Regular Meeting of March 19th, 1957 werezead and approved
as read.
Pursuant to Notice published in the Salina Journal bids were received for
curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets provided for in Engineer Job 357
(2" Hot Mix Paving) as. follows:
Brown & Brown, Inc., Salina, Kansas $104,360.00
Western Engineering Company, Salina, Kansas; $120,982.50
Rhoades Construction Company, Newton, Kansas- $124,017.50
George M. Myers, Inc., Eldorado, Kansas $132,695.00
Broce & Smith, Contractors, Larned, Kansas, $125,227.50
City Engineer's Estimate $111,542.50
Commissioner Exline moved that contract be awarded to Brown and Brown, Inc.,
as per bid submitted in the amount of $104060.00, and return checks to unsuccessful
bidders. Carried.
Contract Ordinance for first reading.
Ordinance passed v J Number
Mayor appointed J. E 1 Wyatt, C. B. Dodge, Jr., and Harley Rose, as apprais-
ers for Job Number 357.
Approved by Commissioner Wenger. Carried.
The matter of rezoning Lots 8 and 9, Replat of Block 5, in Oakdale Addition
to the City of Salina, ansas, from Zone "C" to Zone "D" was taken up by the Board of
Commissioners.
Commissioner Lake moved to take under advisement and make decision at the
next meeting. Carried.
City Manager reported on the following petitions:
1859 For concrete paving of Stapler Avenue from Connecticut Avenue to
Delaware Avenue. 81%
Commissioner Lake moved to refer to City Engineer for description for reso-
lution. Carried.
0 1863 Sidewalk, Village Missionary Church. Sidewalk at curb. 100%
Commissioner Wenger moved to refer to City Attorney to amend ordinance. Carried
Water recommendations.
Agenda for April 2, 1957•
Commissioner Lake moved that City Limit Ordinance be introduced for first
reading.
Ordinance passed: 2 Number:
A petition was presen ed for sewer to serve block north of Iron Avenue from
Front to Second Streets.
On ration of Commissioner Ramsey, referred to City Manager.
A petition was presented for the curbing, guttering and paving of Cloud Street
from Fourth Street to Quincy Street.
On motion of Commissioner Wenger, referred to City Manager.
A petition was presented for the rezoning of Lot 1, Block 1, Eisenhower Addition
to Zone "D".
On motion of Co mmissioner Wenger referred to the City Manager.
Appraisers reports filed for curbing, guttering and/or paving ce-tain streets
provided for in Engineer Job 345.
• Commissioner Lake moved that Hearing on said reports be held April 9th, 1957
at four o'clock P. M. Carried.
Application for Cereal Malt Beverage License presented from Leon Ashton and
Merle Ashton, d/b/a "Ashton Bros. Grocery" 901 West Crawford Avenue, Salina, Kansas.
Commissioner Ramsey moved that application be approved and license granted.
Motion carried.
Petitio ns presented against the rezonirg of Carroll J. Morgenson lot on the
corner of Cloud Street and Roach Street.
Petitio ns referred to City Planning Commission.
A resolution was introduced and passed entitled : "A Resolution reaffirming
the policy of the Board of Commissioners of the City o: Salina, Kansas, in the Flood
Control Program expressed by Resolution Number 1687 and declaring approval of the
Modified Protection Plan."
On ration of Commissioner Lake the resolution was adopted as read and on its
final adoption the roll was called and the following vote was had; Ayes: Hawkes,
Exline, Lake, Ramsey and Wenger (5) Nays: (0) Mayor approved the resolution and
it is Numbered 1813.
The above resolution is recorded in full on Page 211 Resolution Book 6.
On motion of Commissioner Exline the Board of Commissioners adjourned.

Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners March 26th, 1957. Meeting was
called to order by Mayor Hawkes, the roll was called and Commissioners Hawkes, Exline,
Lake, Ramsey and Wenger and City Attorney Barta responded.
The appraisers reports for the curbing, guttering and/or paving certain streets
provided for in Engineer Job Number 347 were taken up by the Board of Commissioners.
No protests.
Commissioner Lake moved to approve reports as read. Carried.
On motion of Commissioner Wenger the Board of Commissioner adjourned.
