11-08-2007 Minutes S ALINA/S ALINE C OUNTY L AW E NFORCEMENT
A DVISORY C OMMITTEE
N OVEMBER 8, 2007
Members Present: Earl Bess, Tony Blair, Richard Frye, James D. Hill, Glen Kochanowski,
Bill Gerry, Recording Secretary Ann Haden.
President Tony Blair brought the meeting to order. Ann suggested when board members
receive the e-mail notification for the meeting that they respond back to advise whether
they will be attending the meeting or not.
Minutes of the October meeting were approved as mailed.
New Business. Tony advised Sheriff Kochanowski has submitted a name for
consideration to fill one of the three open board positions. Joel Wimer is a 38 year resident
of the county and is very involved in the community. He will be invited to attend the next
committee meeting.
Please contact Tony with names of individuals to fill the two board positions that remain
open. It would be beneficial to have a member of the Asian community as a member,
however top priority is an active concerned citizen who is willing to give of their time to the
committee.
The racial profiling training held for police employees was attended by several LEA
committee members. Tony advised he thought the training was excellent and advised the
cultural awareness training given by Lucy was well received. He would like to see the
cultural awareness and sensitivity training continued for the officers.
Lt. Gerry advised the racial profile training program presented was developed by an
organization called “In The Line of Duty” and tailored to our community. It is offered once
each year to officers. Chief Hill advised the officers receive continual refreshers all year
through additional training classes, video and daily briefings.
Complaints. Tony asked if anyone had received any complaints relative to racial profiling.
None were voiced.
Old Business. During an earlier session of the committee there was discussion as to
whether it would be possible to install a pedestrian crossing on North Ninth Street between
Pacific and I-70. This is being reviewed by the traffic department. Lt. Gerry will check on
the progress.
