12-11-2008 Minutes S ALINA/S ALINE C OUNTY L AW E NFORCEMENT A DVISORY C OMMITTEE D ECEMBER 11, 2008 Members Present: Dorothy Armster, Earle Bess, Tony Blair, Lucila Corley, Gary Cummings, Sister Esther Pineda, Joel Wimer, James D. Hill, Glen Kochanowski, Bill Gerry, Recording Secretary Ann Haden. President Tony Blair brought the meeting to order. Minutes of the October 9, 2008 meeting were approved. New Business. Tony expressed concern that perhaps there were some areas where he could be more proactive as President of the committee. He asked committee members to consider topics they feel should be addressed and bring suggestions to the next meeting. Lt. Gerry advised that the department’s annual racial profile training will be held December 17-18 in the training room of the police department. Any LEA members who are interested are welcome to attend. Tony inquired as to whether our current downturn in the economy has affected crime statistics? Chief Hill advised there has not been a significant change in crime stats at this time. Perhaps as the economy worsens and more people are out of work, this may change. Lucy asked if law enforcement had much contact with the new Hispanic bar on Broadway. Nothing significant to note. Ann distributed a new board member contact list. There were changes suggested. Once the list is corrected it will be sent to everyone. Complaints. Lt. Bill Gerry advised there were no complaints to review. Old Business. Following some discussion it was decided that election of officers will be held each December. Since the first officers were elected in 2007, all current officers will hold their positions until December 2009. th The next scheduled meeting is February 12, 2009, 0700 at 255 N. 10 in Room 207 of the Salina Police Department.
