04-10-2008 Minutes S ALINA/S ALINE C OUNTY L AW E NFORCEMENT A DVISORY C OMMITTEE A PRIL 10, 2008 Members Present: Dorothy Armster, Earle Bess, Tony Blair, Lucila Corley, Gary Cummings, Joel Wimer, James D. Hill, Glen Kochanowski, Bill Gerry, Recording Secretary Ann Haden. President Tony Blair brought the meeting to order. Minutes of the March 13, 2008 meeting were approved. New Business. Earle Bess requested that members review Senate Bill 610 reference racial profiling which is currently in committee. You can find this bill by going to www.kansas.gov/index.php, scroll to the bottom left hand side of the page and enter bill number 610 in the search field under the 2008 Legislative Session box. Earle distributed notes/comments of the community forum held at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church on 3/24/08. The community forum was in response to recent shooting involving two young Hispanics and a black man. The forum was a very positive gathering which focused on solutions to the issues. Lucy Corley distributed nonviolence posters that are available in English and Spanish. She will distribute to the schools and community buildings around Salina. Complaints. Lt. Bill Gerry advised there were no complaints to review. Old Business. Tony discussed the need to coordinate a meeting between the Hispanic community leaders and law enforcement. He will work with Lucy to organize a meeting in the near future to be held possibly at the Prescott Room at the library. As approved in the bylaws, the Law Enforcement Advisory committee will begin meeting every other month unless there is a need to call a special meeting of the committee. th The next scheduled meeting is June12, 2008, 0700 at 255 N. 10, in Room 207 of the Salina Police Department.
