J UNE 14, 2012
Members Present: Dorothy Armster, Tony Blair, Joel Wimer, James D. Hill, Glen Kochanowski, Bill
Gerry, Recording Secretary Ann Haden. The June meeting was held at CW Ranch, 4000 S. Halstead
Road, Smolan. President Tony Blair brought the meeting to order.
Minutes of the April 12, 2012 meeting were approved as presented.
New Business.
A new state statute calls for Community Advisory Boards to receive training on “fair and
impartial policing and comprehensive plans for law enforcement agencies.” Training was held
for LEA board members on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 0700-0830 at the SPD. Ms. Kathryn
Carter, Special Agent/Trainer from the Office of the Kansas Attorney General conducted the
training. Lt Gerry advised additional training is required to meet standards. He will contact
Agent Carter to schedule this training.
Complaints.
Lt. Gerry advised one racial profiling complaint has been investigated and unfounded.
Old Business.
Teresa Hernandez would like to be considered for the open board position, replacing Sister
Esther Pineda. Sheriff Kochanowski will obtain a brief resume from her which will be
distributed to all board members by e-mail for consideration. An e-mail vote will be requested
in order to fill this position before Lt. Gerry schedules the additional required training.
Inside Glimpse
Everyone enjoyed the down home hospitality and delicious dinner prepared by Joel, his wife
Jeri and assistant Nita Kay. Joel shared the history and growth of the C&W Ranch during a
tour of the bed and breakfast and the ranch grounds.
