06-16-1969 MinutesI j City of Salina, Kansas Commissioners' Meeting p June 16, 1969 E d The Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners met in the Commissioners' i Room, City Hall, on Monday, June 16, 1969, at four o'clock p.m. i There were present: Mayor Donald D. Millikan, Chairman presiding Commissioner Leon L. Ashton Commissioner Robert C. Caldwell Commissioner Carl R. Rundquist Commissioner William W. Yost comprising a quorum of the Board, also L. 0. Bengtson, City Attorney Norris Olson, City Manager D. L. Harrison, City Clerk The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 9, 1969, were approved as mailed. The Mayor proclaimed the Month of July - Clean up and improve the appearances of the City Month (Sponsored by the Enablers of Salina) The City Manager reported to the City Commission that four boys 18 years of age and over are painting Memorial Stadium, and three boys 16-17 years of age, start today in the Traffic Department painting signs and yellow "No Parking" areas on street curbs. He stated there will be another project in the near future employing more youth. I I The City Manager reported on the bids for Fire Cottage # 4, at Marymount Road and Crawford Street, which were received on June 9, 1969, that the contract documents are in order and that the bid be awarded to Presley Builders, Inc. for $45,985.00. A motion was made by Commissioner Rundquist, seconded by Commissioner Ashton to accept the City Manager's recommendation and award the contract to Presley Builders, Inc. for $45,985.00. Ayes: (5). Nays: (0). Motion carried. Mr. Joe (H. D.) Hale, on behalf of St. John's Military School, presented a letter to the City Commission, urging the City to take those actions to perform necessary urban renewal clearance in the vicinity of the school. St. John's Military School wants to expand facilities and capacity of the school. They are interested in purchasing 20-30 acres for this purpose. A motion was made by Commissioner Caldwell, seconded by Commissioner Yost to refer the letter to the Citizens Advisory Committee for further study. Ayes: (5). Nays: (0). Motion carried. Mr. Otis Turley, 620 South Santa Fe Avenue, was present complaining about rain water in front of his house. He feels the water problem will increase with the completion! of the Prudential Building and parking lot. He was wondering if the City could do anything to improve this situation which has existed for several years. The City Engineer' stated the only solution is a larger storm sewer. (No action) Petition Number 3050, was filed by Royal Realty Company, Inc. for the rezoning of a triangular tract of ground adjoining 941.6 feet of MPRR east of Ohio Street 895.2 feet along the south line of VanHorn Street and 292 feet on Ohio Street, all in the NW4 of Section 7, Township 14 South, Range 2 West, from District "A" to District "G". A motion was made by Commissioner Yost, seconded by Commissioner Ashton to refer the petition to the Salina City Planning Commission. Ayes: (5). Nays: (0). Motion carried. The Mayor, with the approval of the City Commissioners, reappointed Perry Fuller to the Supervised Recreation Commission, as a City Representative, for a four year term to June 9, 1973. Ronald R. Richmond filed Statement # 4, in the amount of $200.00 due upon receipt of bids as per contract dated January 20, 1969, for Fire Cottage # 4. A motion was made by.Commissioner Ashton, seconded by Commissioner Rundquist to approve the statement. Ayes: (5). Nays: (0). Motion carried. An ordinance was introduced and passed entitled: "AN ORDINANCE making an appropriation for the payment of certain claims." (bills). A motion was made by Commissioner Ashton, seconded by Commissioner Rundquist to adopt the ordinance as read and the following vote was had: Ayes: Millikan, Ashton, Caldwell, Rundquist, Yost (5). Nays: (0). Mayor approved the ordinance and it is numbered A-1489. Carried. On a motion by Commissioner Ashton, the Board of Commissioners adjourned. i D. L. Harrison, City Clerk
