98-5299 Reward FundCoed date0Selina RESOLUTION NUMBER 98-5299 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE CITY -HELD REWARD FUND ESTABLISHED WITH PRIVATE DONATIONS FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSON OR PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ABERCROMBIE-MCKIM HOMICIDES. WHEREAS, following the murders of Dorothy McKim, Carol Abercrombie, and Christopher Abercrombie on July 21, 1996, a number of concerned citizens and businesses sent money to the Salina Police Department for the purpose of establishing a reward fund for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible; and WHEREAS, On November 9, 1996, Alan White, the primary suspect in the Abercrombie -McKim homicides, was arrested at a Boston, Massachusetts homeless shelter and was subsequently convicted of the crimes and sentenced to nearly 160 years in prison; and WHEREAS, A Reward Fund Committee consisting of Larry Welch, Director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation; Julie McKenna, Saline County Attorney; Glen Kochanowski, Saline County Sheriff, and James Hill, Chief of Police, have recommended that the privately contributed reward funds held by the City of Salina in the current amount of $39,062.69 and the Governor's Reward Fund of $5,000 be awarded as follows: a. Former cellmate of Alan White $10,000.00 b. Mary King, Boston, MA balance of $34,062.69 SO NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Body of the City of Salina, Kansas: approved. Section 1. The recommendation of the Reward Fund Committee is accepted and Section 2. That the privately contributed reward funds held by the City of Salina in the current amount of $39,062.69 are awarded for distribution by the Chief of Police and the City's Director of Finance in conjunction with the Governor's Reward Fund of $5,000 and in accordance with the recommendation of the Reward Fund Committee set forth above. adoption.
