ANNUAL REPORT - 2001
The Library continued to follow the roadmap of the Strategic Plan in the year 2001. There were
many successes during the year, but the most significant was the MPLA Youth Services Award.
This was the fIrst year for the award, and despite fierce competition, we were cited for
excellence in service to Youth in the 12 state Mountian Plains Library region. The NovelKansas
program with Jim & Kate Lehrer was also a notable event. In other actions, the Board approved
the purchase and installation of two Self-Check Circulation units. These are scheduled for a
spring 2002 start up. The library added a second hardware technician to assist with computer
maintenance.

Use of the library is strong. There are around 20,000 visitors each month. Inten1et computers
are in demand. Programs for Youth are plentiful and registration is usually full. Plans for 2002
include the Self-Check Circulation units, a software upgrade, more Spanish language materials,
growth of a DVD collection, changes to the popular library web page, a new electronic
